TAPCo Binders

1 ½ inch binder that will contain all work in each subject. Goals: – teach students organization; – ensure that students are prepared for class; and – increase usefulness of notes.

Overview Each section has a table of contents (like a book) Each page in the section is numbered (like a book) All work goes into the binder. Binder sections will be emptied at the end of each unit.

Tables of Contents Each section of the binder will have a table of contents. Every day, in the beginning of the period, students write the date, learning objective and page on the table of contents. Students then write the date and learning objective on their notes page. After writing learning objective, students can begin do now.

Create a binder section Put dividers and paper into binder. Put a “Table of Contents” in front of each section. Number the pages in each section Fill out the table of contents: 9/3/13 SWBAT create a binder……….1 Fill out notes page 9/3/13 SWBAT create a binder.

Binder Checks Everything goes into the binder: – Notes – Classwork (make sure to hole punch handouts) – Homework Check binders to ensure that students are following binder procedures. – Daily checks during do now – Unit checks

Emptying Binders Binders should be emptied at the end of each unit. Students will have a portfolio folder and a binder folder in class. Students remove best work and put in portfolio folder. Students then staple the rest of the binder section (“as is”) and keep it in his/her class binder folder.

Advantages Everything is in one place. Easy to find previous work. Organized for easy studying Old units are in class so they will not be lost. Uniform procedures in every class – consistency!
