The Founding Fathers Thomas Jefferson He wrote the Declaration of Independence. James Madison The forth president of the United States and drafted the U.S constitution. Benjamin Franklin The founder of electricity. George Washington Being our first president and was the commander-in-chief of the continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.

Regions of the 13 Colonies  New England- ME, NH, MA, and CT.  Mid-Atlantic- PA, NY, NJ, MD, and DE.  Southern- VA, NC, SC, and GA.  New England- ME, NH, MA, and CT.  Mid-Atlantic- PA, NY, NJ, MD, and DE.  Southern- VA, NC, SC, and GA. What made each socioeconomic region unique? New England- Was largely dependent on the ocean. Fishing (especially Cod fish) was most important. Though whaling, trapping, ship building, and logging was also very important. Middle Colonies- There were big cities such as Philadelphia and New York that were major shipping hubs. There were also craftsmen and blacksmiths, silversmiths, cobblers, wheel rights, wig makers, and milliners. Southern Colonies- They were based on farming, the soil was perfect for it. They sold rice, indigo, tobacco, sugarcane, and cotton as cash crops.

Slavery Slavery came to America because people had work to be done but they didn’t want to do the work so they bought slaves to do it for them. The Southern region became most dependent on it because they have a lot of crops to harvest, water, and help grow them but they didn’t want to do it so they bought a lot of slaves. Clothing Woman wore a stomacher, lace neck kerchiefs, lace aprons, gowns, shoes, hooped petticoats, stays,shifts, and stockings. Men wore a hat, a coat, a silk cravat, a waistcoat, breeches, stockings, and shoes.

Children’s Education In the New England Colonies parents taught their children to read so they could read the bible. In the southern colonies they were either taught by parents or private tutors.

Typical Work Day In the Colonial days, the colonists worked mostly everyday. They didn’t have a certain time to work, they did the same thing mostly everyday. For that large amount of time they got little money, but they had to work to make money for their family. Background and Purpose of the job Wigmaker- These people make wigs for ladies and gentlemen to be crowed with the latest styles. Cooper- These people are the creators of casks. For everything from wine to gunpowder. Silversmith- This is a person who sculpts silver, from from first pour to final polish.

Music Music to popular dances, and military marches.

Shelter Shelter Houses were made our of wood, usually yellow pine. They were also made our of brick or stone. They had shingles but they were made our of wood. The houses were usually small.If you were poor you would live in a 1 room dugout, and if you were middle class you would live in a 1 or 2 room house, and if you were rich you would live in a English mansion.

Furnishings Furnishings Most of the furniture was made from yellow pine. The most common furniture items are beds, chairs, and tables. They made the beds our of wood and cotton. They liked things plain but neat.

Food They hunted wild animals such as deer, rabbits, and turkey. Another source of food was growing crops such as corn and wheat. Soup was a very common lunch, and supper. With soup they had pumpkin bread.
