4  Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence  John Adams was the 2 nd president of the United States  Benjamin Franklin invented the Lightning Rod  George Washington was the 1 st president of the United States

5 3 Regions of the 13 Colonies  New England: Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut  Middle Colonies: Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania  Southern Colonies : Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia

6  New England was unique for their whaling, fishing, and shipbuilding  The Middle Colonies had agricultural, paper making, and logging  The Southern Colonies were unique for their cotton, tobacco, and sugarcane

7  One of the tools used was an Augers  Another tool was a Gimlet  Also, chisels were used

8 OOne of the Jobs was a Blacksmith. Blacksmith is a crafter of hardware AAnother Trade is a Brick maker. Brick makers mold bricks for construction SSilversmiths are sculptors of silver

10  The houses in the colonial times were usually 2 story houses with at least two chimneys. The furnishings were dark wood and detail.

11  Some clothing that they wore were neckerchiefs, caps, aprons, cloak, and breeches. Girls learned how to sew and everyone learned basic arithmetic, reading and writing.

13  People were forced to sail to America so people could get free labor.

14  The southern region became most dependent because of tobacco cultivating.
