The Y3 Residential

Developing Self-Organisation & Independence Residential Trip Two days, one night Personal and social development Homework 1 hour a week Thursday to Monday Daily Reading Doing things for themselves Knowing when their Music tuition is Handing in Reading Journals and Homework Looking after their belongings Going places by themselves – in pairs Knowing how they are getting home Knowing their Enrichments and ASAs

Transition Moving from KS1 to KS2… Preparation has already begun! Children playing together in the KS2 playground Making classroom visits paired with a Y3 class Orientation around the School Eating at the Rainbow Café and Tuck shop Meeting the Y3 Teachers Transition activities

Transition – How can you help your child? Show them how to do things for themselves. Encourage your child to read part of their book by themselves then continue with your paired reading. Teach your child to dress and undress into different kits, including footwear, quickly and neatly. Make sure your child can tie their shoe laces. Learning to tell the time.

Making a start now…… Communication with your child. Tell them what activities they have, how they are getting home, because there is no TA in each Y3 classroom to organise your child. Tell the BUS OFFICE of their travel home arrangements and cc the class teacher of any changes. Have a routine at home where your child puts their reading book so they know where to put and then find things independently. Begin to unpack and pack their own schoolbag.

Helping your child over the holidays: Talking casually about moving up, if your child asks about it Trying to be organised and tidy at home Enjoying books together and discussing Cooking, Sport, Music, Travel See hand-out

The Y3 Team Lianne Berrisford Clara Buckley Elizabeth Walsh Darren Martin John Nook

Your child will need… A hat and water bottle A healthy snack To be responsible for their belongings To pass valuables to their teacher To bring in things they need for each day like kits, letters, instruments, Library books, homework.

Messages from 3B to Y2 Children: “Try your best in everything you do.” “Be tidy and put things back where you found them.” “Make your work in your books really neat and good quality.” “Don’t be nervous because you will make new friends. And you won’t get lost.” “Help other people.” “Listen to Mrs Lagartixa or you’ll get things wrong.” “Don’t be silly and don’t run inside.”
