1 Some of the activities can be accessed via a PC and a few can be accessed via a tablet. Please come and talk to us if you don’t have access to a computer and we can make arrangements to ensure that your child has lots of access to mathletics! Parents can also register. This will give you access to your child’s progress. Please do not help your child with the activities as this will not provide an accurate representation of your child’s ability. The programme its self adapts to the children’s needs and the children are shown where to find help using the programme.

2 Pupil Progress In order for school and parents to work together to support your child’s learning we provide 2 pupil progress meetings through out the year and an annual report. There are also regular sharing times at the end of each month. This provides you with an opportunity to look through the children’s work and look at their school targets at the front of their books. If your teacher has any concerns about your child’s progress then you will be asked to come and discuss this at more frequent pupil progress meetings. All teachers at Waynflete have an open door policy and are always happy to talk to parents’ about any concerns or questions they may have. Please see the teacher at the end of the day as mornings can be a little busy!

3 PE Kits Please ensure that your child has a PE kit and apron in school at all times. PE kits will be sent home at the end of each term to be washed. Please ensure that all items are named!

4 Playground Equipment We would just like to remind parents that children should not be playing on the school equipment before and after school. Thank you.

5 Guided Reading We are aiming for every child to read twice a week, either with the teacher or with the class TA. Some volunteer parents may also hear them read under the guidance of class teacher. The day they read on may vary so please ensure your child has their reading folder, reading book and comment book in school every day! We will tick title of book in comment book when it has been returned and write a note if not returned. If still not returned week later a letter will be sent home and then £5 requested for lost books. Same reading challenge this year: 5 reads at home each week=reading sticker on Monday, 5 stickers=lucky dip!

6 Library books Children will visit school library each Friday. They will be able to choose a book and the title will be written in library card which will be kept in school as many went missing last year! Need to have library book in bag on Friday so they can choose a new book. Unreturned books will be have a letter sent out to remind you to look for them, and lost books will be charged at £5 for a replacement copy.

7 Year 1 Phonics Screening Week Beginning 15 th June all Year 1 children have to complete a Phonics Screening. The phonics screening is a short, simple assessment to make sure that all pupils have learned phonic decoding to an appropriate standard by the age of 6. The phonics check will help teachers identify the children who need extra help so they can receive the support they need to improve their reading skills. Any Year 2 children who did not pass the screening last year will sit it again. This screening is nothing to worry about as all the knowledge the children know is taught within their Read Write Inc sessions in school

8 What is involved in the phonics screening? There is a set pass mark which the children need to achieve to pass this screening but this mark is not provided to the school until after the results have been collated. The check comprises a list of 40 words and non-words which the child will read one-to-one with a teacher. Here is an example of the kind of non-words the children will need to read (Alien words / Nonsense words To the children)

9 P.P.A – Planning Preparation and Assessment The teachers in each year group are given one morning a week to plan, prepare and assess. On these days your child will be taught by a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

10 Fruit, Milk and Water bottles Water bottles The children are all provided with their own water bottle so that they can have a drink during the day. The children are allowed to access their water bottle at any time throughout the school day. They are all asked to have a drink at fruit time, and after playtimes in the hot weather. Water bottles are re-filled daily using cooled, filtered water. Fruit As part of the Fruit for Schools scheme the children also receive a piece of fruit each day. The children sit together after morning playtime and eat their fruit and have a drink. Milk As the children are not under 5 any more they do not receive free milk. However children can still receive milk for a small charge. To receive the milk you will need to register with ‘Cool Milk’ via their website
