Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, LUSI Scope There are six level 2 WBS elements in WBS 1.0 WBS 1.1 – Project Management WBS 1.2 – X-ray Pump Probe (XPP) WBS 1.3 – Coherent X-ray Imaging (CXI) WBS 1.4 – X-ray Correlation Spectroscopy (XCS) WBS 1.5 – Diagnostics and Common Optics Includes XPP, CXI and XCS diagnostics and optics WBS 1.6 – Controls and Data Acquisition Includes XPP, CXI and XCS controls and DAQ

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, XPP Scope Diffractometer & Wide Angle Detector Mover for orienting samples and moving the 2D detector 2D X-ray Detector for collecting x-ray scatter at 120 Hz Shared Laser System including multipass amplifier and pump, optics for beam transport, diagnostics and safety system. Beam diagnostics, x-ray optics, controls and data acquisition Components removed from XPP CD-1 scope X-ray Emission Spectrometer & Small Angle Detector (See responses to the last FAC) All sample environments – strictly budgetary - Would like FAC guidance on what is a good initial suite of sample environments such as a modified “orange” cryostat Ti:Sapphire Oscillator & Regen (Share with AMO) Scope changes are reversible if funding becomes available at a later date

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, XPP Science Capability Changes since CD-1 Reduced Scientific Capability since CD-1 Emission Spectroscopy Small Angle Scattering Limited to Room Temperature and Room Pressure Experiments Eliminating Beam Splitting/Sharing Decreases Beam Time Sharing AMO Laser Only allows setting up one experiment at a time Reversible scope changes preserving early science capabilities

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, CXI Major Scope Items 0.1 to 1 Micron Focus KB Mirrors: KB pairs taking the full direct beam used to produce a 0.1 micron and a 1 micron focus at the interaction plane. Room Temperature Sample Vacuum Chamber to accommodate multiple types of samples and experimental geometries. Particle Injector - with a differentially pumped nozzle - to produce a focused beam of submicron particles delivered from an aerosol at atmospheric pressure to the high vacuum of the chamber. X-ray Detector to measure the diffraction pattern from the sample which will have a central hole to let the direct beam pass. The detector will be read out after every LCLS pulse, at 120 Hz. Reference Laser

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, CXI Major Scope Items Components removed from CXI CD-1 scope Be Lens - Budgetary Electron TOF – Budgetary Pulse compressor – Budgetary Cryo-goniometer system - Budgetary

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, CXI Science Capability Changes since CD-1 Instrument Functionality compared to CD-1 Limited to small samples, no focus larger then 1 micron Limited information on the explosion dynamics with no electron TOF No ability to shorten the pulse duration to limit radiation damage Loss of capability to transfer unique biological samples to vacuum without cryo system Addition of reference laser Allows off-shift alignment Increases useable beam time Reversible scope changes preserving early science capabilities

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, XCS Scope Offset Monochromator for narrowing FEL spectrum, beam multiplexing capability and control of the longitudinal coherence length. Diffractometer for orienting samples, including a local alignment detector Wide Angle Detector Mover 2D X-ray Detector for collecting x-ray scatter at 120 Hz Components removed from the XCS scope since CD-1 SAXS Detector Stage – Budgetary Scope changes are reversible if funding becomes available at a later date

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, Diagnostics and Common Optics Scope Differences since CD-1 Diagnostics Components removed from scope since CD-1 Wavefront sensor removed – Less expensive alternative will be used initially EO system removed from LUSI scope, but added to potential Accelerator Improvement Projects List WBS 1.5 was expanded to include common optics X-ray Focusing Lens Slit System Attenuators Pulse Picker Harmonic Rejection Mirrors for XPP & XCS

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, Possible Scope Additions (If Contingency Allows) Large Offset Monochromator for XPP Sample environment equipment CXI electron time-of-flight CXI pulse compressor CXI cryo-goniometer system Be lens CXI desorption-ionization laser XCS SAXS XPP SAXS Possible Scope Deletions (If needed) Installation of CXI 0.1 micron K-B and Chamber

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, LUSI PLANNED FUNDING PROFILE Prev YrsFY07FY08FY09FY10FY11FY12 BAOPC ($M) BA MIE ($M) Notes: 1 – Assumes FY08 Reduction of $4M Restored in FY11 2 – Planning for a 6 Month CR in FY09 ($1.5M Q1, Q2) 3 – Loss of $4M in FY08 delays CXI and XCS

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, BA Plan & BCWS to Fit BA Profile

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, Cost Estimate WBSDescriptionEst. ($M) 1.1Project Management X-ray Pump Probe (w/BNL) Coherent X-ray Imaging (w/LLNL) X-ray Correlation Spectroscopy (w/BNL) Diagnostics & Common Optics Controls & Data Acquisition 6.9 Contingency Other Project Costs 4.9 LUSI Total Project Costs 60.0 Note: Recent scope additions are not included here

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, Milestone Timeline CD-2 Review is scheduled for August, 2008 and will baseline the entire LUSI project

Tom Fornek LUSI June 17, Features of this Plan XPP ready for early science in July, 2010 CXI ready for early science in July, 2011 Project is BA limited in early FY09 If LUSI were not BA limited, CXI could be ready for beam 6 months earlier XCS is ready March, 2012 Actuals plus commitments through the end of May $2.7M Contingency is over 35% on estimated remaining work
