FAC 4/20/06 D. Schultz 1 The SAD and ARR for Commissioning The Status of the SAD Being written as a part of the SLAC Linac SAD The Status of the ARR Design reviews will build to an ARR

FAC 4/20/06 D. Schultz 2 DOE order 420.2b, Safety of Accelerator Facilities Requirements for Commissioning: A SAD must: (abridged version) Identify and describe hazards Document engineering and administrative controls to control/mitigate those hazards An ASE (Accelerator Safety Envelope) Defines safe operations based on the safety analysis in the SAD. An ARR (prior to commissioning) Verifies that hardware, personnel, and procedures associated with commissioning or routine operation are ready to permit the activity to be undertaken safely. Personnel training, Written Procedures, Commissioning plan, SAD, ASE, and ARR

FAC 4/20/06 D. Schultz 3 Status of the SAD LCLS is being integrated into the SLAC Linear Accelerator Facility SAD, which is being updated & revised. The Lab (S. Williams) is coordinating the revision of the SAD. Writers from AD and LCLS. The LCLS Injector sections will be incorporated by June 2006.

FAC 4/20/06 D. Schultz 6 Status of the ARR Design Reviews Component and System PDRs and FDRs are being conducted following LCLS guidelines. Safety aspects are a normal part of the technical requirements. Working to report safety analyses in a uniform way to facilitate future assessments. SLAC Citizen’s Committees will participate in the review process, following normal SLAC practice. Citizen’s Committees involvement specified through the SLAC Safety Oversight Committee. Need to ensure that all aspects of the project are reviewed, and that the completeness is presentable in a coherent way.

FAC 4/20/06 D. Schultz 7 Status of the ARR Accelerator Readiness Review LCLS ARR for Injector Commissioning will take place Sept.- Nov. 2006, once Citizen Committees’ reviews are complete and the SOC is satisfied. Working with the DOE SSO to ensure that the review process outlined here will be appropriate.

FAC 4/20/06 D. Schultz 8 The SAD is being written as a part of the SLAC LINAC SAD. This work is underway, there is a lot to do, and the effort needs to pick up momentum. Design reviews and documentation, including SLAC Citizen's Committee reviews, will serve as a vital base for the ARR. The ARR itself will be made less traumatic through the preparation of these reviews. Conclusion
