Regular Verbs There are three sets of regular verb conjugations in French. Verbs that end in ER, IR, and RE. They all follow similar patterns. Once you learn how to conjugate the verbs, you can say so many more things! Today we’ll work on ER verbs (the most common)

Terminology: Infinitive & Stem Infinitive: Basic form of the verb that can be found in the dictionary Stem: The verb without the -er attached Ex: Parler Infinitive - parler Stem - parl-

Regular Verbs Ending in -ER Step 1: Drop the ER off of the end of the verb Step 2: Decide which subject to use (Je/Tu/Nous/etc) Step 3: Figure out which ending corresponds to the subject Step 4: Add the new ending to the stem

Régles The forms for je, tu, il, elle, on, ils, and elles are all pronounced the same When a verb begins with a vowel or a silent H, je becomes j’ (j’aime, j’habite)

Liason- when a verb begins in a vowel or a silent h, there is a liason between the subject and verb in the nous, vous, ils, and elles forms. Nous_étudions Vous_aimez Ils_habitent

Negation Subject + Ne + Verb + Pas Je ne parle pas In front of a vowel or silent H, change ne to n’ Je n’aime pas Je n’habite pas
