Dear Brilliant Students, Today you will have to work for your morning greeting. On your desk is a shape. I want you to imagine what this shape could be. Complete this sentence frame…I know this is a ___________________ (shape) but it could be a _______________. For example I might say II know this is a cylinder, but it could be my new tube of lipstick”. Bring your sentence to Morning Meeting.

Dear Mathematicians, We have learned so much this year and will continue to learn even more. Our activity today is to play Math Vocabulary Match. For your morning work, I would like you to think of your favorite math word, write in on a note card with the definition. We will be sharing our favorite words and definitions at Morning Meeting. (My favorite math word is tessellation because I love repeating patterns).

Dear Friday Measurers, I don’t even know if “Measurer” is a word, but I like being able to play with words. Today I would like you to use a tape measure or ruler to measure the distance in centimeters between your wrist and the inside of your elbow. Record your answer on a Post it. We will look at the answers as mathematicians and scientists (mathetist or is it scientician?). As I said before, I love to play with words. How about YOU?

News and Announcements On Friday, we will be visiting the Robbinsville Senior Center to read poems that we wrote and to give them each a framed poem. Please write how you feel about this project in your Rachel’s Challenge journal. Explain your feelings.

News and Announcements Dear Sequential Students, Please make up a math problem using patterns. For example: 7, 14, 21, 14, 21, 28, 21 (+7, +7, -7 is the sequence) Write the pattern on the front and the answer on the back of the card.

News and Announcements Dear Kind Hearted Students, So often we forget to thank people around us for things that they do. In your Rachel’s Challenge journal, make a list of people you are thankful for and why. Then make a card to give to them.

Dear Sequential Students, Wow! That’s a big word! Please write 5 activities in sequence ( that means in order) of what you did from the moment you got up in the morning until you got to school. (Only 5). You will share that with the partners you get from our greeting.

Dear Readers, You have learned how to read nonfiction text. Today I would like to challenge you. On your desk is a flashcard of one of the text structures. For morning work, you are to write an example of the text structure on the other side of the card. Be creative! (It doesn’t have to be realistic)

Dear Excellent Poets, Our poems are on display at the Robbinsville Library. I am so excited that we can share your passion for poetry with the citizens of Robbinsville. Your assignment today is a bit odd…I want you to write an “I Can’t Write a Poem” (poem) on your desk, is a mentor poem to give you some ideas. All you have to do is to make a list of your favorite excuses(don’t have any….make them up!) I Can’t Write a Poem Forget it. You must be kidding. I’m still half asleep. My eyes keep closing. My brain isn’t working. I don’t have a pencil. I don’t have any paper. My desk is wobbly. I don’t know what to write about. And besides, I don’t even know how to write a poem. I’ve got a headache. I need to see the nurse. Time’s up? Uh oh! All I have is this dumb list of excuses. You like it? Really? No kidding. Thanks a lot. Would you like to see another one?

Dear Math Experts, We have been learning about area and perimeter in math. Remember Area= Length x Width and Perimeter is the sum of ALL the sides. Please write either an area or perimeter word problem for your partner to solve during math.

Dear Sequential Students, Please make up a math problem using patterns. For example: 7, 14, 21, 14, 21, 28, 21 (+7, +7, -7 is the sequence) Write the pattern on the front and the answer on the back of the card.
