Exams Rules – D Harmer

Time The public exam rules make it YOUR responsibility to know the date and time of your examination Arrive 15 minutes before the examination. You do not get extra time if you arrive late. After 30 minutes you can be refused entry.

Place Make sure you know where the examination is taking place. It can change if student numbers change or the venue is unavailable (for example a burst pipe)

What to wear You must NOT have any pockets above waist height.

ID Card You will need to place your ID card on the desk – some invigilators do not know who you are. You can be asked to leave if an invigilator believes you are not the correct person sitting an exam.

Pencil Cases If you use a pencil case it must be clear. Otherwise remove what you need and leave the pencil case in your bag or down by your chair

Drink You may only bring a drink in a totally clear bottle

Mobile Phones The exam rules now say don’t bring them at all. If you do forget the exams officer will collect them, place them in lockable pouches and take them out of the room. If a phone goes off in the exam it has to be reported to the examination board as a disturbance. You may loose marks.

Pens and Pencils For graphs only Do not write answers with coloured ink (only black and blue) or pencil (graphs are ok). Your scripts are scanned by a computer and your answers might not be visible

Correction Methods If your crossed out answer is correct you can still receive some credit

Paper Dictionaries Only You may use a bi-lingual translation dictionary (except for language examinations). Learners dictionaries may not be used. The dictionary… must be bi-lingual and have no pictures, diagrams or writing in may have your name in WRITTEN IN ENGLISH will be checked by the invigilators before every Foundation examination (A-Level & IB students you must hand the dictionary in before the exams period starts and the dictionaries are kept by us and put out for you before each exam. You collect the dictionary at the end of the series)

Bring what you need with you Bring the pens, rulers, compasses and calculators you need with you. We are not allowed to lend you any items and you are not allowed to borrow items from other students in the room.

Anyone caught cheating has to be reported to the examination board. They might: Give you zero for that paper Give you zero for that subject (all papers) Give you zero for all subjects that year Ban you for taking exams in the future Universities have been known to call the police and the student be charged with fraud
