The End Justifies the Means… Describe Italy in the 14 th and 15 th Centuries

Treaty of Lodi Forms an alliance between Milan, Naples, and Florence. The Papal States and Venice were already allies.

The peace would end!!! Ludovico of Milan invites the French to re- stake their claim of Naples.

Ludovico Opens Pandora’s Box France wants more territory than just Naples. This begins a French occupation of the Italian kingdoms.

Girolamo Savonarola Warned the people of France that the French advance was a punishment for their sins. Radical monk

Florence Survives Florence, led by Savonarola, does not fight. He would rule for four years until his execution in 1498.

Alexander VI Sought an alliance with the French.

Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia

France Reigns In Italy France occupied Italy in the late 1400’s and early 1500’s until the Holy League (Julius, Ferdinand of Aragon, and Venice along with Maximilian I of the Swiss) drove out the French.
