Literacy Language Arts & Social Studies Reading: selected short stories, novels, poems, nonfiction Writing: expository paragraphs, short answer comprehension, creative writing, poetry, research papers Vocabulary- Building from Root Words English- basic grammar Social Studies units will focus on Maryland up to 1700 Projects: biography report first person narrative book cover with summary elements of a story Social Studies Humanities this year will encompass building upon the students’ reading and writing stamina, good habits of discussion, and ability to make inferences using the text and personal knowledge. Student will receive assessments in reading fluency, comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and writing. Children should read 15 – 20 minutes at home everyday.

General Information Every day students need: sharpened pencils, Blue/black pens, “Cleaned out” take home folders Homework assignments ready on due dates. Check Agendas for dates Stamina books Daily planner in binder: Needs to be checked everyday by YOU! Send in or a note following each absence. Students in band will sometimes miss class instruction. It is their responsibility to check with teachers for class work that was missed and maintain the 3 Rs. Students are not allowed to call home for items left at home, such as lunches, projects or musical instruments. Celebrations: Fall and Winter Holiday Class Parties as well as an End of Year Picnic Student’s Birthdays: Bring treats to the cafeteria ONLY. No cakes please. Remember to log into Parent Portal/PTG to check on your child’s progress. If you have not signed up for Classroom Parent Please do so. That is how we communicate to the 4 th grade as a whole.

General Information   This year the students will be switching to the other 4 th grade team for both Social Studies and Science.   If your child has a repeated behavior problem throughout their day they are to take responsibility for their actions and write a letter home to you explaining the behaviors and what they will try to do tomorrow to make it better. This letter will be signed by the student, the teacher, and by you to be returned. Please write any questions or concerns on your index card. We will reply As soon as possible.
