SPS Access Project PL, EMP Chamonix XV, EDMS: Agenda Description of the present SPS Access System -and where it does not satisfy the INB requirements Upgrade plan Compensatory measures for 2006 Run

SPS Access Project PL, EMP Chamonix XV, EDMS: Access to SPS EIS Acces: –Access Points –‘Portes Grille’ –‘Portes blindee’ –‘Monte charge’ –‘Puisards Techniques’ EIS Faisceau: –Power Converters 400V –Power Converters 18kV –BHZ 377 –TEDs –Extraction kickers

SPS Access Project PL, EMP Chamonix XV, EDMS: SPS Access Modes –Mode ‘Closed’ –Mode ‘Shutdown’ –Mode ‘Supervised Access’

SPS Access Project PL, EMP Chamonix XV, EDMS: System Architecture (from 1995) All safety functions based on a S5 PLCs architecture, single points of failure. Excellent “retour d’experience”. The INB policy is to always have redundancy in all critical safety systems.

SPS Access Project PL, EMP Chamonix XV, EDMS: Compensatory measures: Run 2006 Access doors: –Caps on the doors locks, but only in entry direction –Emergency exits non affected Sector doors in the transfer lines used as emergency exits will be connected directly to neighboring AUG chains: –PPG66003 in TT6 in to extraction zone towards TI2 –PPG4004 in TT40 in the extraction zone towards TI8 and CNGS –PPG21161 in the interface zone between TT20 and target region TCC2. –PPG in TT10 in the transfer tunnel between PS and SPS OPENING THE DOOR WILL TRIGGER AN EMERGENCY STOP OF SPS!

SPS Access Project PL, EMP Chamonix XV, EDMS: Project Phase 2, Run 2007: Cable Loop In redundancy with the present PLC based system. Limited scope (LHC solution): Detect an intrusion on the external envelope and put in the safe position the ‘EIS-faisceau’. One cable loop per chain: no conflict with the present SPS operating modes.
