3 Layout of LHCb in UX85 Area

4 LHC5 - CMS

5 ATLAS

6 ATLAS

7 LHC2- ALICE

8 ALICE - Access via PX24

9 Functional test of the LHC Access system in point 8.
LACS & LASS overall system tests complete CCC and CCR hardware & software Complete LHC8 interlocked area Test scope: Access Operation in “General, Restricted, Closed modes Individual equipment test Access points, doors, shielding walls, patrol, … Patrolling of the 13 access sectors (incident simulation) LHC 8 closure -> safe condition for Beam Operation Moving to Beam operation: Trigger of the Beam Imminent Warning Unlocking of the Emulated LHC EISBeam and of the SPS Intrusion Checking of the system behaviour in case of : emergency stop, equipment, control system, power system failure Moving back to Access operation Not included: access control delegation to XCR

10 Synchronised operation from XCR and CCC
Delegation Synchronised operation from XCR and CCC Only the Access requests are re-routed to XCR (No control of any Machine related element). Audio & Video control Delegation cancelled by a LASS VETO or by the CCC

11 Functional test of the Access system in LHC8.
Results : First functional tests in LHC8 allowing the verification of all the concepts and equipment. Tests were globally successful Safety functions operated as specified Non conformities concerning installation defects, ergonomics of the restricted mode of operation, and the intercom system. Clear need of training and users’ information Test organization Machine reserved 2 evening and 1 Saturday Thanks to LHCB for the cooperation, Test were eased as the cavern was not completely fenced Next stages: CMS, ATLAS, ALICE testing To be organized in collaboration with LAAWG

12 Feedback from operation AND open issues
Use of the new access points: Initial difficulty of use of the new access procedure As far as we know, everybody has been able to access Much faster “burn-in” than previous recorded experiences (see PX15). Much faster and flexible authorisation system (on-line update of databases from registration to access point). Training of experimental control room operators Open Issues Operation of the Non-interlocked areas Access point in pressurized areas Being analysed by SC (R. Trant LEAF 10/5/07)

13 Important points concerning the Exp. Areas.
LHCB Test after final installation of fences and shielding wall Patrol procedure Access procedure to the non-interlocked area PZ85 renovation ATLAS SSA: pilot installation in June, available in September Partial commissioning planned W33-35 PX15 Access Point upgrade CMS Installation of the remaining access points (UPX56) Cabling of the Patrol devices in the cavern Commissioning planned W30-32 PM54 Access Point Design & Installation ALICE W27-W40 installation and commissioning Work preparation

14 Conclusion Good progress – despite a hesitant Contractor. Expect to be ready as planned (Master Schedule) Operational issues - to be finalized with the experiments.
