2 SPS Personnel Protection System Renovation Project
Tomasz Ladzinski for the SPS PPS Project Team 07/06/2017 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3

3 What’s so special about access ?
Access interlocked with beam – during accelerator operation period: “do not touch” Access equipment heavily used during access periods; interventions not very popular… LS2 objective is to renovate, while: Providing basic access control functionality with limited perturbation to the users; Monitoring the “external envelope” consisting of access points and the end-of-zone doors. 07/06/2017 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3

4 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3
Work Breakdown Central Infrastructure Servers, HMI, Global PLC – change to current technology Will be done in two steps: temporary installation in 104, then in the CCC (1 week of perturbations) Access Site rack equipment Change the PLCs, relays etc., centralized UPS 1 week dismantling, 2 weeks installation Access Point Personnel and Material Access Devices 3 weeks for access point replacement External Envelope Doors instrumentation 1 week works with minor impact Internal Doors / Patrol Boxes instrumentation 2 weeks works with minor impact EIS-beam/machine interlocks Several punctual interventions, no major impact 07/06/2017 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3

5 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3
Location of Works The entire SPS Complex is concerned: SPS Ring - BA1, BA2, BA3, BA4, ECX4, BA5, ECA5, BA6 East Extraction & AWAKE - TAG41, TAG42 West Extraction & HiRadMat - BA7, TT61 North Area primary - BA80(TCC2), BA81, TCC8, ECN3 Works with most impact at the access point (surface for the ring) dismantling of the turnstile, door and racks installation of PAD, MAD, new door, finishing grids. 07/06/2017 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3

6 Access Point Components
SAIMA Ele 2000 PAD as in the PS, with an integrated rack (1050 x 1600) SAIMA MAD as in the PS and LHC – the minimum width is at least as large as the elevator (1200 x 2500) Emergency Exit door (900 mm passage) 07/06/2017 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3

7 Access Point Replacement
Replacement of an access point: 3 weeks No access through the access point during weeks, possible to enter from adjacent points. Minimize the duration of access perturbation and the cost of temporary workarounds Schedule to bother the least (e.g. use the same time windows as lift renovation) – 2-3 weeks Guards with “access control suitcase” – 2-3 weeks (Expensive) Temporary turnstile relocation – 1 week (Expensive) Pre-install in vicinity and swap access points –1 week (Space issues) 07/06/2017 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3

8 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3
Dependencies PLAN Item (pilot AP installation ECA5 in 2018) Item (all other works during LS2) Integration studies EN/ACE Signal cabling, fibers etc. – EN/EL Connection with EIS-beam/machine/external – BE/ICS/AS, EN-STI, TE/EPC, TE/ABT, EN/CV, HSE/RP, TE/MSC Metallic structures, grids, door adjustments – SMB/SE, EN/ACE Transport of access point equipment, racks etc. from bld. 104 to the sites – EN/HE 07/06/2017 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3

9 Testing and Commissioning
Multi-stage approach Test of Access Point after installation Test of a complete access zone – access blocked during 1-2 days Global tests – required one week with no access just prior to the SPS closure, prerequisite to allow safe tests of the SPS hardware. DSO Test before first beam 1-2 days 07/06/2017 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3

10 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3
Planning – version 0 This is a very first attempt… Version 1 will be provided once more input is available (cabling, lifts etc.). 07/06/2017 SPS LS2 Planning Meeting #3
