Lockwood Survey Results Completed June 2012 – by Rep. Jonathan McNiven This online survey was conducted May 21 – June 8th, 2012

The idea of a community center in Lockwood spawned from the November 2011 Lockwood Steering Committee meeting. A subcommittee was created to develop questions for the online survey. The subcommittee members were Penny Helms, Corky and Leola Harkins, Scott Pancheau, Kevin Smith, Don and Cheryl Mortenson, Ron Hanson and Don Reed.

On Sunday March 18, 2012, committee members and Lockwood residents visited the Joliet Community Center and learned more about their community center and how they built it and how they now maintain it financially.

This is a picture of the Joliet Community Center that we visited and toured from the outside.

Round table discussion with subcommittee members and Joliet community center board members.

Subcommittee Members Corky Harkins and Penny Helms with Representative Jonathan McNiven at Joliet Community Center.

An online survey was put together to see how the community of Lockwood would respond to a possible community center and an was sent to community districts, social media, and online groups. below: Dear Lockwood residents, employees, parents, businesses and anyone else associated with Lockwood. Please take 5 minutes to complete this 10 question survey of Lockwood. Please get this out to your distro lists and as many of your contacts as possible so please forward the and link to the survey. This survey will help the Steering Committee and Lockwood members know the direction in which you think Lockwood as a community needs to be focused. I’d like to have this completed this week!!! So hurry before you forget. Thank you, Jonathan McNiven Also, for those interested, here is a Lockwood community facebook group for anyone to be connected online. I’d be happy to post the results on that group as well as report to the steering committee and anyone one else with the results. Please pass this on to all your list as I’m sure I’m missing people but wanted get this out now

About the Survey: Total Surveys Completed = 186 Of the 186 survey takers, 67 (36%) were Lockwood residents and 107 (57%) were residents with kids in school and 9 (5%) of the surveyors work only in Lockwood and finally 2 % that do not live in Lockwood. (Graph on next slide) The online survey was conducted through Survey Monkey. Only one response was allowed per computer IP address. So if a household had two computers, then a husband and wife would have been able to take the survey.

Side note: 15 survey takers selected both “Work towards becoming their own City” and “Focus on other issues and Opportunities”. That is the reason for those voting numbers to be over 186 on this graph. Note that staying the same is not an option.

Interesting results for parents that have kids in school and live in Lockwood..

Slides 20 and 21 are pretty much the same compared to residents with kids and residents without kids in regards to the future of the Lockwood Community.

Slides 19 and 20 are pretty much the same compared to residents with kids and residents without kids in regards to the future of the Lockwood Community.

Lockwood Montana Survey 2012 Please list your top 3 priorities for Lockwood. Answer OptionsResponse PercentResponse Count Priority # %155 Priority # %139 Priority # %114 answered question156 skipped question30

TOP Priority for Lockwood = 155 submissions School = 66 of which 35 were a new high school Sidewalks and roads = 31 Sewer and water = 16 Community/park = 10 Incorporate = 10 Other = 12 Crime = 3 Fire station = 3 Side note: 57.5% of the total responses (155) for this question had kids that attended public school in Lockwood, so that might be something to take into consideration. It was interesting that out of the 66 school responses, 35 specifically mentioned a high school.

Thank you to all those who took the time to give us some feedback regarding Lockwood. Please feel free to visit the Lockwood Facebook group for updated community and survey results at Please let me know if you have any questions and I’d be happy to get that info for you. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve you. Rep. Jonathan McNiven – MT House District
