of 13 Inputs and Outputs Using ICT

of 13 You need to know about a range of computing devices including: Desktop computers Laptops Tablets Netbooks Smartphones Computing Devices You need to know when Portland Games or EPL might use each device and reasons why. Task - List each device and give an example of when both companies might use it

of 13 Peripherals are devices we connect to the basic computer system. They can be used to put data in or take information out of the system. Peripherals

of 13 Input There are various peripherals that can be used to input data into a computer system. Keyboard Mouse Digital camera Scanner Game controller Microphone

of 13 Input cont… There are also: –Barcode reader –Chip and pin reader –Touch screen –Sensors Task – write down when both Portland Games and EPL would use each of the input devices

of 13 Output There are also various peripherals that can be attached to your computer system that will output data. Printer Speakers Monitor

of 13 Output cont… There are also: –Touch screen –Projector –Plotter Task – write down when EPL and Portland Games would use each output device

of 13 Storage The main storage feature on most computers is the hard disk drive, but we also use peripherals as backing storage; to make extra copies for backup or to move data to another computer. hard disk CD/DVD flash memory Cloud storage

of 13 Storage peripherals An external hard drive will provide maximum data storage. It works the same as a normal hard drive but is portable and holds a huge amount of data (some can store over 1,000 GB). DVDs and flash memory cards can hold much more, between 4-8 GB, and this is likely to increase over time. CDs and zip disks hold about 700 MB of data. Cloud storage – you pay a monthly fee to store your data online

of 13 You need to know… When EPL and Portland Games might use each input, output or storage device You need to know the advantages and disadvantages of each one Task – write down when EPL and Portland Games might use each storage device

of 13 Physical impairment Users who are physically impaired might make use of the following devices to make using a computer easier: –Puff-suck switch –Braille keyboard –Foot mouse You need to be able to talk about these in relation to EPL and Portland Games

of 13 Cont… There is also software to help physically disabled users: –Text to speech software –Speech to text software –Zoom You need to be able to talk about these in terms of EPL and Portland Games
