1.You know, there are times when we happen to be just sitting there quickly watching TV, when the program we’re watching will stop for a while and suddenly someone appears with a smile and starts to show us how terribly urgent it is to buy some brand of detergent or soap or cleaner or powder or paste or wax or bleach- to help with the housework. 2. Now, most of the time it’s a lady we see who’s doing the housework on the TV. She’s cheerfully scouring a skillet or two, or she’s polishing pots ti’l they gleam like new, Scouring: to scrub gleam: to shine Housework

1.Or she’s scrubbing the tub, or she’s mopping the floors, 2.Or she’s wiping the stains from the walls and the doors, 3.Or she’s washing the windows, the dishes, the clothes, Or waxing the furniture t’il it just glows, Or cleaning the ‘fridge,’ or the stove or the sink With a lighthearted smile and a friendly wink Housework

Housework And she’s doing her best to make us think that her soap Is the best kind of soap That there is in the whole wide world Fridge: refrigerator Lighthearted: cheerful

3. And maybe it is— and may be it isn’t – and may be it does what they say it will do.. but I’ll tell you one thing I know is true: The lady we see when we’re watching TV The lady who smiles as she scours Or scrubs or rubs or washes or wipes or mops or dusts or cleans- Or whatever she does on our TV screens The lady is smiling because she’s an actress/ And she’s earning money for learning those speeches that mention those wonderful soaps and Housework

Detergents and cleansers and cleaners and powders and pastes and waxes and bleaches. 4. So the very next time that you happen to be Just sitting there quietly watching TV, And you see some nice lady who smiles as she scours or scrubs or rubs or washes or wipes or mops or dusts or cleans 5. remember Nobody smiles doing housework but those ladies you see on TV. Because even if the soap or detergent or cleanser or cleaner or powder or paste or wax or bleach That you use is the very best one- housework is just no fun

Housework Children, When you have a house of your own, Make sure when there’s housework to do that you don’t have to do it alone. Little boys, little girls, When you’re big husbands and wives, If you want all the days of your lives to seem sunny as summer weather, Make sure when there’s housework to do that you do it together.

Good-bye to ( Some) Housework 1 I can remember a certain TV commercial from when I was a child. In this commercial, a happy housewife is polishing her table. The table is so shiny that we can see her smiling reflection in it. She’s so happy about her shiny tabletop! Does shiny furniture make people happy nowadays? Does anyone even polish furniture today? I cannot remember the last time that I polished furniture. 2 People have less time for housework these days. They are lucky if they have time to wipe the crumbs off the table and put the breakfast dishes in the sink before they go to their jobs. 3. Because people have less time, many kinds of chores, like polishing furniture, just don’t get done anymore.

Good-bye to some housework Some people have studied changes in the use of cleaning products. From their studies, we can tell which chores aren’t getting done. For example, one study looked at different in types of housework people did between 1996 and In just ten years, there were many changes. 4. Some chores, like laundry, will never go away. In 1996, people used about the same amount of laundry detergent that they used in but polishing furniture seems to be less important than doing laundry. In 1986, 21 percent of homemakers used three or more cans of furniture polish in six months. By 1986, 9 percent of homemakers

Good- bye to some housework Used three or more containers of carpet cleaner in six months. By 1996, only 5 percent of homemakers used that much carpet cleaner. And what about those ovens? Seventy – five percent of homemakers used no oven cleaner for six months in 1996!

Poems often use words that rhyme with each other. Usually, the words that rhyme are at the end of different lines, but sometimes they are in the same line. Two words rhyme if their endings sound the same. There is a young girl named Tess, Who’s always a terrible mess, She starts each day clean,, But by eight – fifteen, Breakfast’s all over her dress.
