Founding Fathers John Adams: He was the second president of the United States of America and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Samuel Adams: He was the 4th Governor of Massachusetts and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Josiah Bartlett: He was the 6th Governor of New Hampshire and signed the Declaration of Independence. Charles Carroll: He was the United States senator from Maryland and signed the Declaration of Independence.

New England New England has 4 colonies. Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. New England is known for big trades of fish. Also, lumber, ship building, and molasses.

The Middle Colonies The Middle Colonies have 4 colonies. New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The Middle Colonies were known for the biggest plantation of growing food to make bread. Which are oats, wheat, rye, and corn. They were called “The Bread basket.” They also had ship building, and tobacco.

The Southern Colonies The Southern Colonies has 5 colonies. They are Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina South Carolina, and Georgia. The Southern Colonies are known for the biggest plantation of tobacco and indigo. They also had tar from pine trees, pitch, and rice.

Slavery Slavery came to America because people went to Africa and captured Africans to work as slaves just because their skin was a different color. The Southern Colonies became most dependent on slavery when the other regions outlawed it. The Southern Colonies had the most slaves and didn’t want to give them up.

Jobs There weren’t as much jobs during the colonial times as there is today. Here are just there of them. Blacksmiths were one of the most important jobs in the colonial times. They were the ones who made all of the pots and things you need. They also made all of the horse shoes your horse needs. Tailors were another important job. They were the ones who made all of your cloths. Without them, you probably wouldn’t have your cloths. The last one I am going to talk to you about is a Gardner. They were the ones who picked all of the vegetables. Without them you probably wouldn’t have your vegetables.

Tools Back in the Colonial times there weren’t that many tools as there are today. The tools were, augers, gimlets, braces, chisels, gouges, compasses, calipers, drawknives, spokeshaves, hammers, planes, saws, squares, and bevels.

Crafts and Games of Colonial Times In Colonial times there weren’t many games either. For playing inside there were; board games, puzzles, cards, and dolls for the girls. For playing outside there were; rolling hoops, walking on stilts, or a game of nine pins.

Shelter and Furnishings The houses in the Colonial times were not that big. They didn’t have all of the materials that we have today. This one was one of the biggest house there was. The furnishings weren’t as nice as the furniture we have today either. They were small and not really that comfortable because they didn’t have any furniture stores. They had to make their own furniture. This house was not as big. It is the log cabin.

Costume: Women The women’s cloths had a lot to it. If you were a women in the colonial times, you had a lot to put on to get ready in the morning. There were, stays, a shift, a hooped petticoat, stockings, a hat, a lace cap, a lace neck kerchief, a stomacher, a lace apron, a gown, a silk petticoat, and shoes.

Costume: Men The men had less cloths to put on than the women. They had a shirt, stockings, a cane, breeches, a coat, a waistcoat, a hat, a wig, and shoes.

Education In the Colonial times the boys practiced letters, reading 18th-century children’s books, and assembling educational puzzles. The girls did sewing like, working on samples, mending clothing, or making doll cloths.

Food There weren’t that many food choices in the Colonial times. Some of the food we still have today. The foods were, Apple Tansey, Carolina Fish Muddle, Gazpacho, Gingerbread and Holiday wassail, Peanut Soup, Pennsylvania Dutch Apple Dumplings, Shepherds pie, Veal Chop with Celery, Mushrooms Thyme and Port Wine, Welsh Rabbit, Bourbon Balls, Scallops of Salmon, Tidewater Chili, and Pumpkin Gnocchi.
