Arrival & Dismissal

Arrival

Exit the bus as directed by your driver and enter the school. Car riders and walkers, enter the school and head for gyms.

7 th graders, go directly to the small gym, unless you want to eat breakfast. Be seated as directed and sit quietly until you are dismissed for 1 st period.

Breakfast

7 th & 8 th graders who want to eat breakfast, go directly to cafeteria and leave backpacks at designated table. You may not carry backpacks or book bags through the lines.

When looking at the serving lines, 8 th graders sit on the left side of the cafeteria, and 7 th graders sit on the right side of the cafeteria.

Proceed through lines and sit at the table assigned by the teacher on duty and promptly eat. Clean your table, deposit your trash in the receptacles, and go directly to the proper gym.

If you do not promptly eat, you will be directed to leave the cafeteria and go to the gym. This time is not for socializing but for fueling your body for the great day ahead. It’s “The Gator Way”!

Dismissal

At MJHS, we dismiss in 2 waves. The waves depend upon your bus route number, or whether you are a walker or car rider.

1 st Wave: 1 st wave bus riders ONLY Dismisses at 2:32 P.M. bell. Proceed directly to the bus ramp and board your bus. DO NOT stand and socialize!

2nd Wave: Car Riders and Walkers Dismisses at 2:38 P.M. bell. Proceed directly to the Front Exit or Bus Exit. Leave Campus promptly

2 nd Wave: Remaining bus riders Dismisses at 2:38 P.M. bell. Go directly to the cafeteria, find the tables with your bus route number, and sit only at those tables. Do not switch tables!

All students: No extracurricular activity at MJHS starts before 2:38 P.M. Therefore, NO ONE, including athletes or tutorial students, may leave before 2:38 P.M.

All students: NO LOITERING! You must leave campus immediately after school unless you are in an extra-curricular activity or tutorials. You must be under the supervision of a teacher at all times.

All students: NO LOITERING! If you are found to be in the building unsupervised after 3:00 P.M. you are trespassing and you will receive disciplinary consequences.

Your obedience to these common-sense procedures will allow us to exit almost 1,500 students each afternoon in a timely and safe manner. It’s “The Gator Way”!

Restroom, Passes, Counselors, & Emergency Drills

Restroom

Your Teacher determines his or her own Restroom privileges for students.

Other than the 10-minute period at the beginning and end of the period, when no pass will be issued, and no student may be in the hall, your teacher may issue you a pass to go to the restroom.

The plastic pass your teacher issues you has a specific color. That color determines the restroom you may use. Do not travel to another restroom or another floor.

Violation of restroom rules may result in loss of restroom privileges during class times and/or disciplinary action. Do the right thing. It’s “The Gator Way”!

Passes

If you must go somewhere other than the restroom, your teacher will issue you a YELLOW pass to go to that specific destination. Go directly there. Do not go to the restroom or any another destination without a pass.

You must have a YELLOW pass in order to be outside a class room or in a hall. Do not go to the restroom or another destination.

Violation of pass rules may result in loss of pass privileges during class times and/or disciplinary action. Do the right thing. It’s “The Gator Way”!

Counselors

Counselors are available for students to talk about a variety of topics. Students must complete a request to see the counselor.

Teachers will place the requests in the counselor’s mailbox. The counselor will call for the student when it is convenient and appropriate.

Emergency Drills

Periodically, we will have required emergency drills. These could include fire drills, lockdowns, and tornado drills. Your cooperation is most important.

These emergency drills prepare us for the worst. These emergency drills can show us at our best.

It’s up to you, our young adults, to participate fully and cooperate with the directions you will be given so that you will be safe. It’s “The Gator Way”!

Assemblies, Special Events & Phones

Assemblies

We will have some great Assemblies this school year. Your cooperation is most important.

Your teacher will escort you to and from the auditorium (or gym). Please walk quietly in a straight, single-file line.

You will sit where directed. Do not switch seats.

You will be respectful to the speakers and presenters. Honor those who are speaking to you. It’s “The Gator Way”!

Special Events

Your teacher will escort you to and from the gym (or cafeteria or auditorium or other destination). Please walk quietly in a straight, single-file line.

You will sit where directed. Do not switch seats.

You will be respectful to the speakers and presenters. Honor those who are presenting the event. It’s “The Gator Way”!

Phones

Between your arrival and 2:32 P.M., Your cell phone…

Must NOT be turned on, visible, or used while on campus. Read the Code of Conduct

Upon violation of the rules: Teachers will take-up your phone.

The Secretary to the Associate Principal will keep your phone until your parent claims it.

Your parent will have to come to the Office of the Associate Principal after school, and pay fifteen dollars ($15.00) to claim your phone.

Best advice: Play by the rules and keep your phone out-of-sight during the entire school day. It’s “The Gator Way”!

School Phones

Classroom phones may be used by students in case of emergency. Students should not be released from class to use the phones in the office.

If you are ill: You must get a YELLOW pass from the teacher to the nurse. Only the nurse can allow you to phone home when you are ill.

Hallways, Passing Periods, Tardies & IDs

Hallways

Ten-Minute Rule You may not be in the hallways for the first and last ten minutes of each class period.

Teachers will not issue passes during these ten- minute periods. So, don’t ask for one.

Special Stair Rule You may use ALL staircases during the school day except going to 1 st period. If you are going to 1 st period upstairs, you will only use the main stairway.

General Rules Walk on the right side Go directly to next class Avoid blocking traffic Move-on if instructed Walk and talk No horseplay NO RUNNING (THIS WILL BE ENFORCED!!)

Passing Periods

4 minutes between classes is ample time to arrive. Avoid dawdling in hall. Tardies will be punished ( LD, ASD, FASD, ISS)

It is critical for traffic in the hallways to move freely in order for you to be safe. It’s “The Gator Way”!

Tardies

Be on-time to class. Respect your education.

It is critical for you to be in each class for the entire period in order to receive all of the instruction.

Substitute Teachers

Our substitutes are valuable to us and to you. You know your regular teachers’ rules. Obey those rules and help your substitutes. It’s the “Gator way”!

Violations will have several consequences: Your regular teacher will issue discipline. You may receive grade level office discipline (LD, ASD, FASD, ISS, etc.)

Welcome, Gators! Have a Gator-rific year!!!
