Our Aims Personalise the curriculum by providing appropriate pathways for students Link to pathways in KS4 creating routes from 14-19 Raise attainment at all ability levels Develop independence and lifelong learning skills in post 16 students Enable students to progress to their chosen University, College, Apprenticeship or career path

Programmes of study Pathways at post 16 depending on achievement at key stage 4 GCSE and BTEC 5 taught hours per week per academic subject (with some exceptions) Close links with Bridlington School as part of The Shores Enrichment programme Work experience for all year 12 students

Pathways 2015-16 PATHWAY 1 Academic PATHWAY 2 Applied General A Levels (AS/A2 Level) old system for some subjects Linear A Levels – new system from 2015 – phased introduction for some subjects Entry requirements to these courses will normally be 5 A* to C grades (including English & Maths) with a minimum of a B grade in the subject to be studied PATHWAY 2 Applied General BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (equivalent to one A Level) BTEC Level 3 certificate equivalent to AS BTEC Diploma (equivalent to 2 A Levels) Entry requirement to these courses is normally 4 A* to C (including English and Maths) grades with at least a C grade or a BTEC Merit in the subject to be studied PATHWAY 3 Applied General BTEC Extended Diploma (Equivalent to 3 A Levels) Entry requirement will normally be 4 A* to C grades including a minimum of B or BTEC Merit in the subject to be studied

A Levels changes from 2015 2015 – introduction of linear A Levels (2 year course with terminal exam) English (Literature and Language) Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) History Business Art and Design Psychology Sociology 2016 – 2nd phase of introduction of linear A Levels Religious studies Drama Dance Music Languages Geography In the interim period some subjects will be delivered and assessed under the existing structure of AS and A2

How many courses? If you are taking all new linear A Levels then most students will take 3 subjects – very able students could take 4 but would have to continue with 4 until the end of year 13. If you are taking a combination of old and new style A Levels you could take 4 in year 12 and after year 12 “cash-in” one subject as long as it is one that has an AS/A2 assessment. If you are taking a combination of Applied General BTEC courses and A Levels the same restrictions to the above bullet point would apply. If you are taking all Applied General courses we would advise you take 3 qualifications unless you are choosing ICT Diploma (equivalent of 2 A Levels) or BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport (equivalent of 3 A Levels) We will discuss the most appropriate number and combination of courses with each individual to ensure that you have the best progression to you future career aspirations.

Year 11 into 12 Timeline for the rest of the year February 4th 2015 year 11 pathways evening February 5th 2015 Bridlington School 6th Form open evening 5th February 2015 onwards apply online www.logonmoveon.co.uk by 6th March 2015 March 10th onwards (for approximately 3 weeks) individual interviews to discuss applications May/June GCSE and BTEC examinations July 6th year 11 into Sixth Form “Heads up” induction week August 20th 2015 GCSE results and enrolment into the Sixth Form Please note that you do no need to make your final choices until August/September once we have produced the timetable blocks any subsequent changes of options will have to be accommodated within the fixed subject blocks
