Registratienr: What is ETIS? European Transport policy Information System. Transport Database Online storage and retrieval Data Exchange Format Meta data system Community of users

Registratienr: Data, Models, Assumptions and Comparability of results Base year data (regions, commodities, etc) Other assumptions Models (parameters, type of model) Scenarios Results ETIS TRANS-TOOLS

Registratienr: 2002, ETIS starts From 2002 up to 2005 development of the pilot for ETIS European Transport policy Information System (ETIS-BASE, ETIS-LINK, ETIS-AGENT) The result of a wide concertation between experts, Member States, Commission, their support has been crucial

Registratienr: Key Principles Established Database for Transport Policy Generic database for modellers. Objectively complete. Broad Geographical Scope With specific attention on accession region. Observed Data Favoured over estimated/modelled data. Data Model Data should be self explanatory. Sustainable Business Model. One stop shop for European transport data.

Registratienr: Key Design Elements  Data model “inspired by” Eurostat. Sound basis for updating. Main EC reference data.  Data collections. Each collection conforming to data model.  Online access to data. Already active.  Data community – check in check out. Mechanism for defining and refining content.  Documents, tables, maps. Integrated knowledge base.

Registratienr: The relationship to EUROSTAT  ETIS does not replace EUROSTAT but builds on its work  There was a close cooperation between ETIS project partners and EUROSTAT  The objectives of building an ETIS like tool were not realisable within EUROSTAT  ETIS includes data not included in the EUTOSTAT data sets (more data from national data providers, or data from other data providers)

Registratienr: Cooperation with other projects and organizations Close cooperation with other projects and organizations required: Optimize the integration of ETIS into the existing environment Build up on existing experiences Take into account diverging needs and expectations

Registratienr: The future of ETIS  Tool for the European Commission  Tool for national policymakers  Tool for transport modellers  Tool for all other stakeholders
