EU AEO programme has been fully operational for more than 7 years. Solid programme that had become an important instrument for supply chain security and trade facilitation. Recognised by both international trade and customs authorities. Some changes with Union Customs Code (UCC) and its implementing provisions

Technical changes: In the future, the AEO status shall consist of two types of authorisations: AEOS and AEOC However, both types may be held at the same time These authorisations will still result in three types of certificates (AEOC, AEOF, AEOS) with the AEOF combining both types of them

Substantial changes: New criterion on ‘practical standards of competence or professional qualifications directly related to the activity carried out” (required for AEOC) Enhancement/better clarification of certain AEO criteria (Financial solvency, Security and safety) Enhancement of certain provisions related to the procedural aspects of the AEO process Closer and clearer link between the AEO status and other customs simplifications

Cooperation with other competent authorities and alignment of programmes to ensure global supply chain security to avoid duplication of efforts and costs for authorities and economic operators

"The SAFE Framework also encourages the establishment of co-operative arrangements between Customs and other government agencies. There should be recognition of other already existing international standards." Cooperation and exchange of information and best practices among WCO members at international level is crucial
