Wellness Wheel Physical Wellness The ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows us to get throughout daily activities without fatigue or physical stress. The ability to recognize that our wellness and adopting healthful habits while avoiding destructive habits will lead to optimal health.

Wellness Wheel Emotional Wellness The ability to understand ourselves and cope with the challenges life can bring. The ability to acknowledge and share feelings of anger, fear, sadness or stress; hope, love, joy, happiness in a productive manner contributes to our Emotional Wellness.

Wellness Wheel Occupational Wellness The ability to get personal fulfillment from our jobs or our chosen career fields while maintaining balance in our lives. Our desire to contribute in our careers to make a positive impact on the organizations we work in and to society as a whole leads to occupational wellness.

Wellness Wheel Environmental Wellness The ability to recognize our own responsibility for the quality of air, the water and the land that surrounds us. The ability to make a positive impact on the quality of our environment, be it our homes, our communities or our planet contributes to our Environmental Wellness.

Wellness Wheel Intellectual Wellness The ability to open our minds to new ideas and experiences that can be applied to personal decisions, group interaction and community betterment. The desire to learn new concepts, improve skills and seek challenges in pursuit of lifelong learning contributes to our intellectual wellness.

Health Vocabulary Lifestyle Factors: habits that affect how long a person lives (quality of life). Risk behaviors: actions that can potentially threaten your health or the health of others. Healthful Behaviors: actions that keep you and others safe and free from harm and injury.

Health Vocabulary Wellness: an overall state of well-being. Having a good quality of life. Prevention: practicing health and safety habits to remain free of disease and injury. Health education: the providing of accurate health information to help people make healthy choices.

Health Vocabulary Health literacy: a person’s capacity to learn about and understand basic health information and services and use these resources to promote his or her health and wellness. Cumulative risks: related risks that increase in effect with each added risk Abstinence: avoiding harmful behaviors

Wellness Vocabulary Mental and Emotional Health: The ability to accept yourself and others, express and manage emotions, and deal with the demands and challenges you meet in your life.

Wellness Vocabulary Character: a person’s use of self control to act on responsible values. Self-Control: is the degree to which a person regulates his or her own behavior. Self-esteem: is one’s belief about one’s own worth. – Positive self esteem= believing that you are worthy and deserve respect

Wellness Vocabulary Self- efficacy: a person’s belief in his or her capacity or ability to perform a behavior or skill in a desired way. Self-respect: a high regard for oneself because one behaves in responsible ways. Conceit: excessive appreciation of one’s own worth.

How can you improve your Self-Esteem Discuss what you could do to improve your self- esteem. – Choose your groups top 4. – Write 1 on each piece of paper given to you. – Put paper into the bin. Work in the designated groups of 4.
