How to Perform a Formal Presentation

Greetings and thanking the audience Here is when you welcome and thank the audience for their attendance and present your team if there is someone else with you. Eg. Good afternoon I want to thank you all for being here today, this afternoon, this evening, etc…according the time of your presentation, my name is Carmen Lugo and this is my partner John Doe.

Introduction to the topic In this step of the presentation is where you give a brief introduction of the topic and the points are going to be presented.

Eg. As you may know today I am going to talk about the procedure of a formal presentation, I will mention the steps of a formal presentation, followed by some examples in each of the points and finally I will be giving some recommendations and a conclusion.

Start the presentation As the point states, this is the beginning of the presentation.

I would like to start by mentioning that formal presentations are very useful when you are a professional because it will increase your opportunities to succeed, besides demonstrating that you can perform before an audience. As a result, it proves that you have received academic training.

Following up the procedure Here is where you make sure that the audience is following you by stating the next point in your presentation guide or by yielding the floor to your partner. Eg.:I would like to continue with some examples…or To continue with the next step my partner John Doe is going to give you some examples.

Recommendations 1. KNOW YOUR SUBJECT MATTER 2. KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE 3. KNOW YOURSELF (and your limits) 4. DEVELOP A THEME 5. PREPARE YOUR SCRIPT (opening, body, summary, closing) 6. SELECT THE PROPER VISUAL AIDS 7. REHEARSE--REHEARSE--REHEARSE

Conclusion To conclude I will say that the central purpose of any presentation, written, oral or visual, is communication. To communicate effectively, you must state your facts in a simple, concise and interesting manner and at the same time show your academic training .

Thanks That is all for today, tonight, (according the time of your presentation) once again thank you all for your attention, have now a great evening (again this is according the time of your performance).
