2 Presentations PURPOSE Defining Your Objectives (Ziele festlegen): Subject What am I going to talk about? Purpose/Objective What am I trying to achieve? Preparation How will I achieve my objectives?

3 Presentations PEOPLE Identity Who are the people in the audience? Number How many people are there? Knowledge What do they know about the subject? Attitude What is their attitude? Relationship How can I establish a good relationship?

4 Presentations PLACE AND EQUIPMENT Room Size Is it a large room or a classroom? Position Where will I stand? Where is the audience? Equipment What do I need? What preparations have to be made?

5 Presentations PRESENTING YOURSELF A) Your Voice: What you say Plan the content of your presentation carefully! How you say it How do I have to use my voice? Speak loudly, clearly and slowly!

6 Presentations PRESENTING YOURSELF B) Body Language: Eye contact Facial Expression Movement and Gesture Posture Keep eye contact with the audience and stand still!

7 Presentations TIMING Length of Presentation Decide how long each part should take in minutes. Mark this time on your notecards! Rehearsals Rehearse out loud; sometimes parts have to be reduced or left out. Questions Allow the audience to ask questions; rehearse answers to possible questions beforehand.

8 Presentations VISUALS Not too many, not too few! Prepare your audience for visuals! Visuals and Layout Use a well-designed layout! Give the audience time to absorb the information! Not too much information on visuals! Present only key words and phrases! Do not use long sentences! Audience and visuals! Talk to the audience, not to the visuals! Do not leave a visual longer on the screen than necessary!

20 Presentations Main Content – referring to visuals If you look at this photograph, you can see one of the best known sights of Australia, Ayers Rock. I´d like you to have a look at these figures which reveal some interesting details about the government´s funding of public institutions.
