The tragic hero falls from a high place.  3-There must be a contrast between previous happiness and/or glory and fate met.  4-The calamities do not simply “happen” nor are they “sent”; they proceed mainly from the actions of men. Shakespeare’s tragic heroes are responsible for their own catastrophes. The incidents must be absolutely honest and without the element of coincidence or chance. What should happen must happen.  5-The play must lead up to and include the death of the hero, but before the hero meets defeat, first must come enlightenment.  6-The suffering and calamity are exceptional, striking, and unexpected.  7-The basic emotions in reaction to the tragedy are those of fear and pity, (pity for the suffering of the protagonist, and fear that we may meet the same fate.)
