Presentation transcript:

If something like that has ever happened to you, you are not alone…. …..thousands of children are being victims of bullying from their classmates every day…. Even though, you can make the diff erence….

Generally….. Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others. The behavior can be habitual and involve an imbalance of social or physical power. It can include verbal harassment or threat, physical assault or coercion and may be directed repeatedly towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of race, religion, gender, sexuality, or ability. If bullying is done by a group, it is called mobbing. The victim of bullying is sometimes referred to as a "target". Bullying can be defined in many different ways. The UK currently has no legal definition of bullying, while some U.S. states have laws against it. Bullying consists of three basic types of abuse – emotional, verbal, and physical. It typically involves subtle methods of coercion such as intimidation.

Why do children bully?? Become more popular Imitate aggressive behaviors from family or school They are being pressed by the group peers or obey in orders of other children Become leaders and dominate the group of peers Gaining something (e.g. pocket money or objects of classmates of them Do not accept children who differ in something Gain power Break the monotony, because they are often bored at school sometimes feel a pleasure from causing panic

The rule of  Only 15% of people tries to help the bullying victim  When somebody does, have success 80%!!!!!  If you want to help the victim you have to do it during the first 10 seconds’ period

What can we do to stop bullying The best and most obvious way to stop bullying in schools is for parents to change the way they parent their children at home. Of course, this is much easier said than done and everyone parents their children differently. Bullies, however, come from homes where physical punishment is used and children have been taught that physical violence is the way to handle problems and “get their way.” Bullies usually also come from homes where the parents fight a lot, so violence has been modeled for them. Parental involvement often is lacking in bullies’ lives and there seems to be little warmth. Early intervention and effective discipline and boundaries truly is the best way to stop bullying, but parents of the victims or therapists cannot change the bully’s home environment

After that are you going to stay a disengaged onlooker?? « Στο τέλος δεν θα θυμόμαστε το λόγια των εχθρών μας αλλά τη σιωπή των φίλων μας» Martin Luther King, 1962 Finally we are not going to remember what did our enemies say but what did our friends not say..
