Presentation transcript:

Solar System by Allyssa Murrelle The Solar System has eight planets and it has a dwarf planet. Our Sun is a star and it is in the center of the Solar System.

Sun The Sun is in the middle of our solar system. The Sun is a star.

Mercury Mercury is the 1st planet from the sun. The maximum temperature on Mercury is 801 degrees.

Venus Venus is the 2nd planet from the Sun. Venus is the closet to Earth.

Earth The Earth is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old. It travels through space 660,000 miles per hour.

Mars Mars is the only planet whose surface can be seen in detail from the Earth. Mars is the 4th closet planet to Earth.

Asteroid Belt The Asteroid Belt lies between Mars and Jupiter. Asteroids and comets both orbit the sun.

Jupiter Jupiter is the largest planet in our Solar System. Jupiter is the 5th planet from the Sun.

Saturn Saturn is the second largest planet. Saturn is the 2nd planet from our Solar System.

Uranus Uranus is the 7th planet from the Sun. It is named after the Greek God.

Neptune Neptune is the 8th and final planet. Neptune is named after the Roman sea God.

Pluto Pluto has a rocky surface covered with nitrogen. Pluto’s moon is mostly nitrogen.

Comets Some comets, like Halley’s comet, became well known because their orbits bring them to close. Comets are a mass of ice.

Stars A star is a huge ball of superheated gas. The Sun is a star.

Galaxy A galaxy is stars, gas, and dust. We live in the galaxy called the Milky Way.
