What is a hypothesis? An if, then, because statement describing what you are going to be testing in your experiment.

What type of observation has no numbers or measurement? A Qualitative Observation

What do you use to make an observation? Your 5 senses: Seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching

What is science? Making observations and discoveries about the natural world.

It is an attempt to explain what you have observed. It has a cause and effect in it. What is an inference?

What do you do if you have a question or problem? Talk to your favorite science teacher about it!

Name 2 safety procedures when using chemicals. Use eye protection and an apron. Never taste chemicals.

Name the 2 rules about electricity. 1.Never use equipment with damaged cords. 2. Don’t let cords hang off table or across the walkway.

DAILY DOUBLE DAILY DOUBLE

What are the 3 main causes of accidents? Carelessness Lack of Attention Inappropriate Behavior

What do you have to do at all times? Follow all written and oral directions.

What do you do when you come into class before the music finishes? Complete bellwork and get all materials ready.

What do you do if there is lab equipment out when you come in to class? Leave it alone until instructed to use it.

When conducting an experiment, why is it important to do things in a certain order? So your experiment makes sense and your results are reliable. (Same reason you don’t read a book backwards!)

Why do scientists document their procedures and data so thoroughly? So their work can be repeated or verified.

What is the late work/make-up work/re-take policy in Bot-Zo? Late/make-up work turned in by Friday of the week it was due. Re-takes completed by the following Wednesday.

What are the first 2 steps of the Scientific Method? State your QUESTION Identify the VARIABLES

What are the 3 parts of the Hypothesis? IF….. THEN….. BECAUSE *Remember, no personal pronouns. (I, we, you)

Explain the 2 types of observations. Qualitative has no measurement – only 5 senses can be used. Quantitative does have numbers or measurement.

Explain the difference between an observation and an inference. An observation is the information you gather using your 5 senses. An inference is an attempt to explain or make sense of what you observed.

Explain the difference between a prediction and a hypothesis. A prediction is only telling about what you think might happen in the future. A hypothesis is predicting the outcome of an experiment – it is testable.

On the new Lab Rubric, what comes after the hypothesis? The prediction.

Why is it important to show your calculations in your Lab Report? So that your results can be verified. It also allows someone to see what data you used for your analysis and 4 discussions.

Why do we include procedural errors on the Lab Report? So that you are aware of the factors that may have changed your results.

In the Inference section, why do you include the importance to the real-world in your answer? To show the relevance of your experiment.

List the 4 Discussions on the Lab Rubric. 1.Relationship between the variables 2.Explanation of Results 3.Hypothesis 4.Procedural Errors

FINAL JEOPARDY ? Labs

Describe the 2 main types of variables. An Independent Variables is the one you are testing in the experiment. A Dependent Variable is the result of what you are testing.
