Driving economic recovery Technology enabled innovation is the primary enabler of growth and is at the heart of new economy sectors Half of Europes productivity gains in recent years are attributable to investments in IT Better exploitation of technology could yield upto £35Bn improvement in UK productivity Technology holds the key to innovation, global competitiveness and improved public services:

Skills and recruitment issues Nearly half of IT & Telecoms companies that are recruiting report insufficient suitable applicants Less than 1 in 5 of companies with less than 10 employees provides training for their IT professionals The sector is missing out on half of the talent pool – even today only 17% of the workforce is female

Enabling the information society 77% of the current workforce uses IT in their everyday jobs 92% of new recruits need skills in the use of IT Employers report widespread skills gaps (e.g. 29% lacking database skills, 28% lacking spreadsheet skills) IT user skills are key to employability and social inclusion
