Presentation transcript:

DO NOW You must be silent and working for credit Be on time Enter silently Grab papers Immediately start work No talking Yes, we have new seats. I will not change them unless it is dire. You can see me after class. What does the N in BEGIN stand for? Write down your favorite thing you did over spring break Write down your favorite thing we did last marking period (not including ice cream – that was everyone’s favorite!) 

ANNOUNCEMENTS! Report cards – next week. If you have an NMS come see me immediately. The NMS window will close on April 13th. If you have not seen me by that date, you will not be able to make up your NMS. Congratulations to the boy’s basketball team – STATE CHAMPS!

PROCEDURES REVIEW Classroom entry - you must do it silently or I will ask you to repeat the procedure. You know what you should be doing at this point in the semester, and we want to run like a well-oiled machine for the last quarter of the year Cell phones - three strikes and you're out. I will give you two warnings about your cell phone. On the third strike, I will ask for your cell phone. If you refuse to produce the cell phone, I will call for a hall monitor to escort you out of the classroom. Two warnings is generous and disrespect about this policy will not be tolerated.

INTRO TO SOLUTIONS!

POLLUTION ARTICLE Read the guiding questions before you start on the article – this will give you a good idea of what you’re looking for You will read the article independently and silently (by yourself!) You have 15 minutes to read and answer questions Then, you will get into groups of 3-4 and decide whose answer to number 9 is the best – that is the one you will present to the class

GUIDING QUESTIONS – 15 minutes Answer the following questions on your own sheet of paper: What is O3? Why is O3 bad when its low in the atmosphere? Are O3 levels higher now than they were 100 years ago? How much? Why do scientists think O3 levels are increasing? How many parts per billion per year are O3 levels increasing? What is a part per billion? What do you think a part per million is? Which do you think is bigger (#6 or #7)? If most of the O3 in the US comes from Asia, what do you think the US should do to stop this? Be prepared to defend your answer

GROUP DISCUSSION After I am done speaking, find a group of 3-4 people within 30 seconds Discuss your answers to question #9 about the reading Chose a person’s answer to represent your group – they will share their answer with the rest of the class

Exit Ticket When is the final date to see me about an NMS? Are you surprised to find out that ozone can be bad or good depending on where it is in the atmosphere? Which is bigger, parts per billion or parts per million?
