2006 regulations changing from September: “headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances” Exceptional circumstances include: Family bereavement of close relative, unavoidable work commitments such as Naval work, sporting or music competitions, religious observance Exceptional circumstances do not include: surprise holidays, cheap holidays, birthday parties, weddings in foreign countries, family gatherings abroad Term time absence
