1 Southwood Primary School Parents Information Afternoon Year 3

2 Who’s Who in Year 3? ◦Mr Cartwright (Emerald Class Teacher & Year Group Leader) ◦Mr Yellappa (Purple Class Teacher) ◦Ms Guthrie (Red Class Teacher) ◦Mrs Tripp (Deputy Head Teacher) ◦Mrs Sweeney and Mrs Bejti (Teaching Assistants) ◦Mrs Hunt (Learning Mentor)

3 Expectations of children in Year 3 We respect ourselves and each other. We always tell the truth. We do as we are asked the first time. We work, talk and walk around quietly. We listen to other quietly and politely. We finish our work carefully and always do our best. We look after our school and everything in it.

4 School Uniform… ◦Sweatshirt with school logo ◦Cardigan with school logo ◦Black or grey trousers or skirt ◦Polo shirt with school logo ◦PE Kit: White t-shirt, black or navy shorts, socks, trainers, shoe bag.

5 Rewards and Consequences… Your child will start on green every morning and afternoon. If they stay on green for the half term they will receive a certificate. If your child makes a positive choice about their behaviour he/she will move up to either bronze, silver or gold. Anytime they move onto these they will receive a sticker. If your child makes a negative choice about their behaviour he/she will move down to blue, yellow or red. Blue behaviour will result in a warning. When Yellow behaviour occurs you will be notified. Your child may receive ‘Time out’ and be asked to reflect on their behaviour. Red behaviour will result in your child being sent to a senior member of staff immediately and you will be contacted to discuss required action

6 What we will learn this year… In English… ◦ A Story with a familiar setting. ◦ A set of instructions on ‘How to catch a troll.’ ◦ Writing a play script. ◦ An information text about the Stone Age. ◦ An explanation text about where water comes from. ◦Non chronological report about the Victorians. ◦Writing a mystery text.

7 What we will learn this year… In Maths… ◦Addition and Subtraction ◦Multiplication and Division ◦Place Value and Ordering numbers ◦Fractions ◦Time ◦Problem Solving, Reasoning ◦Algebra ◦Curriculum letters provide specific topics.

8 What we will learn this year… In Science… ◦How does you garden grow? ◦The Power of Forces ◦Amazing Bodies ◦Rock Detectives ◦Our Changing World ◦Can you see me? Throughout the year we will be learning how to carry out fair tests and asking questions about how things happen.

9 What we will learn this year… Our Topics will be… ◦What was new about the Stone Age? ◦Where on earth are we? ◦How much did the Ancient Egyptians achieve? ◦How does water go around and around? ◦What was important to our local Victorians? ◦Do you like to be beside the Seaside?

10 Homework expectations… Homework will be given out on a Friday and expected back on a Wednesday. Homework will include a piece of Maths and a piece of English which may be related to class topic work. Children are also expected to complete their daily spelling sheet at home and bring to school each day. Please ensure children are reading regularly with an adult.

11 School Journals… This should be used by the children, parents and teachers. Please read through and become familiar with your child’s School Journal. It should be used for: Reading at home Spellings Communicating with your child’s teacher

12 School visits and experiences… Natural History Museum (Autumn) Valence House (Spring) Seaside (Summer)
