What is bullying? ITS INTENTIONAL (on purpose): PHYSICAL: pushing, hitting, kicking, etc…

What is bullying? ITS INTENTIONAL (on purpose): SOCIAL: Not letting others be part of your group. Leaving kids out

What is bullying? ITS INTENTIONAL (on purpose): VERBAL: Threats, name calling, making fun of. Notes, s, text messaging. NON-VERBAL: making gestures and faces that are mean. Rumors Gossip Hey, you!

Why do people bully others? They think its cool To feel good about themselves They think of it as fun (people laugh) Someone else has done it to them.

They didnt fit in Theyre physically weaker than other guys Theyre short-tempered Who their friends are or were Clothing isnt right What guys say about why theyve been bullied:

They didnt fit in Their facial appearance They cried or were to emotional Theyre overweight They get good grades The Bullying Prevention Handbook, 1996 What girls say about why theyve been bullied:

What to do if YOU are being bullied. The Action Plan 1.Ignore it or walk away: Take control! Dont give in to the bullys plan. Be Strong! I dont have time for this.

What to do if YOU are being bullied. The Action Plan 2.Get help! Clearly tell an adult what happened and what steps you have taken to solve the problem.

What to do if SOMEONE ELSE is being bullied. The Bystander Say STOP! A bully is MUCH LESS LIKELY to keep doing it if someone (ANYONE!) says STOP. Report! Tell an adult you trust.

But Im not a Tattletale! Tattling/snitching: Telling to make someone get in trouble. Reporting: Telling to protect yourself or someone else; to keep them from getting hurt (body or mind).

What does a bully need to know? Its wrong People dont like it Its illegal There are consequences: –Natural: Loss of friends, loss of respect –Logical: Loss of privileges, freedom –Legal consequences

Dont be a victim.
