Presentation transcript:

Draft Procedure Johnny (Most Skilled Player) The league President will assign a committee, consisting of the coordinator and two other persons he thinks would be the most knowledgeable of the players in the age group. The committee will take all the players that they have decided to “place” on teams and rank them according to skill level. Rank enough players so that each team will have the same number of “ranked” players. Johnny (Most Skilled Player) Allen (Second Most Skilled Player) Bobby (Third Most Skilled Player, etc.) Ronnie Mike Jimmy Steve Tony

Draft Procedure Coaches Allen Sr. Ron Sr. Bob Sr. The committee takes each manager’s child and that manager’s assistant’s child and places them together in a column with their ranking. Coaches Allen Sr. Ron Sr. Bob Sr. Mike Sr. Steve Sr. John Sr. Players 2. Allen 4. Ronnie 3. Bobby 5. Mike 7. Steve 1. Johnny If a manager does not choose an assistant, or if their children are not ranked, a player must still be placed in the column. In this case, take all the manager’s and assistant’s children’s rankings and calculate an average. Find the player closest to that average on the rankings list and place that player in the empty spot.. If the manager or assistant has more than one child that is ranked place that child in that column also but in a position that keeps the teams as equal as possible.

Draft Procedure Coaches Allen Sr. Ron Sr. Bob Sr. Mike Sr. Steve Sr. John Sr. Players 2. Allen 4. Ronnie 3. Bobby 5. Mike 7. Steve 1. Johnny If the manager or assistant’s child is not ranked they will be that teams second draft pick. If the manager and assistant has more than one child that is not ranked, they will be the forth and sixth draft picks.

Draft Procedure Coaches Allen Sr. Ron Sr. Bob Sr. Add the rankings of the two players in the top of each column. Move the pair of players to the appropriate column according to their ranking. The lowest ranked pair will go to the first column, second lowest ranked pair to the second column etc. The highest ranked pair will be in the far right column. In the example below, Bob Sr’s team goes to column 3 , Allen Sr’s team goes to column 2, and Ron Sr’s team goes to column 1. Coaches Allen Sr. Ron Sr. Bob Sr. Mike Sr. Steve Sr. John Sr. Players 2. Allen 4. Ronnie 3. Bobby 5. Mike 7. Steve 1. Johnny 2+5=7 4+7=11 3+1=4

Draft Procedure Once the pairs are put in the appropriate columns, take the remaining players that you have previously ranked and place them in the appropriate columns. Start with the highest ranked player remaining on the list and place them in column 1. The next highest ranked remaining player goes to column 2. Continue down the list placing the ranked players in each column moving to the right.

Draft Procedure When a player is placed in the column farthest to the right, the next player goes in the same column. Now you will start placing players in columns moving to the left.

Draft Procedure When a player is placed in the in the column farthest to the left, the next player goes in the same column. Now you will start placing players in columns moving to the right.

Draft Procedure When finished, all columns should have an equal amount of ranked players. Add the rankings in each column to ensure the skill level is as equal as possible. If there is an obvious difference a few players will need to be traded.

Draft Procedure Once the ranked players are evenly placed on teams, remove their rankings, shuffle their positions in their columns, and shuffle the columns. This should eliminate any animosity about where a player was ranked.

Draft Procedure Now it’s time to draft the remaining unranked players. Each manager will draw a number to determine the order in which they will pick in the draft. Use the same process that was used to place the ranked players. (left to right, drop down, right to left) #1 #2 #3

Draft Procedure If the committee isn’t sure of a players skill level they need to consult prior coaches. They also need to determine the skill level of new players in the league. Once the committee goes through the process and gets all the ranked players placed they will submit the list to the league President for approval. All managers need to understand how the players were placed on the teams prior to the draft.
