THE LABOUR ADMINISTRATION AND INSPECTION PROGRAMME LAB/ADMIN Giuseppe Casale Director Labour Administration and Inspection Programme LAB/ADMIN Geneva

LAB/ADMIN Part of SECTOR IV. Lead unit on labour administration/inspection across technical sectors and regions. Follow-up to the 2008 Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalisation. Reference to: “building of effective labour inspection systems”. LAB/ADMIN carries out its technical assistance and activities with a view to assisting labour administrations, including labour inspection systems and employment services, in the design and implementation of more effective policies and measures for the protection of workers and the improved functioning of labour markets.

LAB/ADMIN Building capacity of labour administration to implement the decent work agenda through elaboration and implementation of labour policies. Strengthening labour inspectorates to be modern and effective. Establishing and strengthening the legal and institutional framework of labour administration systems. Ensuring an efficient coordination of the various administrations and agencies. Promoting relevant ILO Standards (C.81, C.129, C.150) Health & Safety standards (C.155, PFfOSH Convention)

LAB/ADMIN Ensuring the consultation and participation of workers and employers. Main services: Assessment of institutional organisation and management. Provision of administrative and professional support to tripartite bodies. Exchange of information on labour administration and inspection systems. Promote an exchange of good practices and initiatives on labour administration/inspection. Assist in updating relevant labour and administrative legislation.

LAB/ADMIN Main services (contd): Undertake research on relevant topics (e.g. the role of labour administration/inspection during the crisis). Promote gender balance among the staff of labour administration/inspection. Link with international networks. Tackle challenges such as undeclared work (cross border collaboration) Networking and information sharing Media and awareness campaigns Technical Cooperation
