COORDINATING GROUP FOR STATISTICS ON TRANSPORT (CGST) 30-31 OCTOBER 2017 Eurostat Item 1 of the agenda

2017 activities Produce and disseminate European aggregates for the transport modes based on the five legal acts and voluntary data collection Implement the new legal acts on Rail and IWW cooperation with EURA on new rail data (infrastructure) to be published on Eurobase methodology on passengers transported by IWW Recast of the new Rail Regulation - numerous provisions that have been amended several times, often quite substantially + it is also necessary to make a substantive amendment to Article 4(5) of that Regulation. Therefore, the proposal is being presented in the form of a recast Codification of the IWW Regulation – end September, Commission adopted the proposal on codification of IWW

2017 activities Hearings with DG MOVE Review of the collaboration between the two DGs and the future statistical needs Grants on passenger mobility, road traffic and intermodal Agreement on the methodology to territorialised air performance, start working on maritime Rail distance matrix

Transport statistics in Eurostat publications Key figures in Europe

Transport statistics in Eurostat publications Eurostat regional yearbook This chapter focuses on regional transport statistics, other than for road transport (which was covered in the previous edition and which will feature again in the 2018 edition); its main focus concerns air and maritime transport services. Regional transport statistics are collected for a broad range of transport modes covering passengers and freight and aim to quantify flows between, within and through regions; differences between regions are often closely related to their levels of economic activity and numbers of inhabitants as well as their geographical location

Transport statistics in Eurostat publications The Energy, transport and environment indicators book presents European statistics produced primarily by the EU Member States. It provises a view on where the European Union stands and where current trends may lead us in the areas of transport, energy and environment policies. It therefore contributes to making better informed decisions in these closely related areas. To be published soon

Annual Work Programme 2018 Extension of the European Statistical Programme – compromise reached last June, voted in the EP in September (first reading), next step: adoption by the Council The draft Annual Work Programme 2018 - the first annual programme to implement the extended European statistical programme (ESP) 2018-20202 Provide statistical information in a timely and cost-effective manner, …, to support the development, monitoring and evaluation of the policies of the Union …. and serving the needs of the wide range of users of European statistics, including other decision-makers, researchers, businesses and European citizens in general

Annual Work Programme 2018 Strategic priorities 2018 8. Geospatial, environmental, agricultural and other sectoral statistics 8.3: Provide energy and transport statistics to support the policies of the Union The ESS will continue to develop and produce statistics needed to assess progress in meeting quantitative targets set in the 2011 Transport White Paper on volume and performance of each transport mode, as well as passenger mobility and road traffic. The provision of statistics to the European Commission transport modelling activities and to support new policy initiatives following the 2016 Low-Emission Mobility and by the 2017 "Europe on the Move" strategies is also foreseen. Based on the developed Guidelines on Passenger Mobility and harmonised indicators, the pilot data collection will continue in 2018. In addition, the Guidelines on the compilation of intermodal statistics at national level using the ‘German Approach’ will be used for a pilot collection of intermodal indicators. In the framework of modal split indicators, the development of distance matrices and methodology for territorializing freight volumes transported by all transport by distance class will continue and will be extended to passengers' data. Cooperation with other international and European organisations will be strengthened in order to harmonise and exchange collected statistics, reduce reporting burden and meet the new requirements of the amended transport statistics Regulations on rail and inland waterways. The work for producing a methodology for the passengers' data collection travelling by inland waterways and for assessing the feasibility to collect this information will be done in close collaboration with the Member States
