10.1 The Nature of Matter Matter is a term used to describe anything that has mass and takes up space.

10.1 Elements An element is a pure substance that cannot be broken down into other substances by chemical or physical means.

10.1 Compounds and elements Compounds are two or more different elements chemically bonded together.

10.1 Mixtures Many substances are a mixture of different elements and/OR compounds AND CAN BE SEPERATED BY Physical MEANS

Mixtures can be homogenous or heterogeneous Homogeneous A MIXTURE THAT IS THE SAME THROUGHOUT A MIXTURE IN WHICH DIFFERENT SAMPLES ARE NOT NECESSARILY MADE UP OF THE SAME PROPORTIONS OF MATTER

Solutions A mixture of two or more substances that is homogeneous at the molecular level
