Key stats 2013 SW exports to EU 65.7% Export for Growth June 2016 Discover new markets beyond EU/US 1,000+ companies supported 2018 SW Exports 7.0% growth Exports to EU now 45.6% Strong growth in SW top 10 markets China 30.3% Hong Kong 26.7% Japan 26.3% UAE 21.7% US 9.4% Our funding agreement for the Export for Gorwth project was signed just two days before the referendum. little did we know when we planned the project there was to be a referendum, let alone the decision to exit the EU. At the time of designing the project in 2013, the South West was heavily dependent on exports to the EU, 65.7%, the highest in the country. Part of the aim of the project was to explore markets beyond the EU for growth. Export for Growth has been running for over 2 years, and since its launch in 2016, we’ve supported over 1,000 companies in the South West. The project is still actively recruiting companies to support, and is due to end at the end of March 2019. South West exports have consistently grown throughout the project, 7.0% in the year June 2017 -2018, strongest in the country. Our dependence on EU has reduced in the same period to 45.6%, now lower than some other UK regions including South East 49.1%, and East of England 52.7%.
