Analysis of growth and market share June 2016

6 International Visitation to Colorado in 2015

7 International visits to Colorado reached a new high…
Colorado received 925,000 international visitors and 553,000 overseas visitors in 2015. Total international visits to Colorado are up from 722,000 in 2010, a 28% increase in five years. Total overseas visits to Colorado are up from 430,000 in 2010, a 29% increase in five years.

8 …with growth rates that outpaced the US…
Total visits to Colorado grew 4.5% in 2015, outpacing the US growth rate of 0.1%. Overseas visits to Colorado grew 11.1% in 2015, outpacing the US growth rate of 4.3%.

9 …. and showed robust results in most major markets
Colorado’s visitor growth far outpaced US growth in several markets including Italy, Japan, France, and Germany. Colorado received slightly slower growth than the US in a few key markets including Canada, Brazil, and Mexico.

10 Colorado draws on a diverse geography…
In comparison to other regions, Europe is Colorado’s top overseas market with 30% of total visitation or 282,000 visits. The Asia Pacific region provides 15% of total visitation, and strong domestic growth in the region’s emerging markets may increase this share in the future.

11 …and a variety of emerging and developed countries
Canada and Mexico are Colorado’s top source markets by a large margin. The UK is Colorado’s top overseas market, with 71,000 visits.

12 Markets

13 Trends in Visits from Top Markets

14 Canada Canadian visitation dropped to 197,000 in 2015 from an all time high of 218,000 in 2014. The strong US dollar continues to depress visits from Canada in 2016.

15 Mexico Visits from Mexico increased to 175,000 from 169,000 in 2014.
Visits from Mexico have increased at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.5% since 2010.

16 United Kingdom In 2015, visits from the UK increased to 71,000 from 65,000 in 2014. This figure is still below its all time high of 75,000 in 2011. The weakening pound may depress growth in the future.

17 Germany Colorado experienced strong growth in visitation from Germany in 2015, increasing to 43,000 from 38,000 in 2014.

18 France Visits from France were up by 14.0% in 2015.
Colorado received 36,000 visits from France in 2015, up from 31,000 in 2014. Visits from France have increased at a CAGR of 7.6% since 2010.

19 Australia After several years of decelerating growth, visitation from Australia grew by 15.4% in 2015. Overall, visits from Australia have increased at a CAGR of 5.8% since 2010.

20 Brazil Colorado received 30,000 visits from Brazil in 2015, a 1.3% increase over 2014 visits. While visits from Brazil have increased at a CAGR of 7.0% since 2010, a sluggish Brazilian economy will slow growth in the future.

21 Japan Visitation from Japan increased to 26,000 from 23,000 in 2014.
This growth is especially notable given the overall decline of visits from Japan to the US (see slide 6).

22 China Visits from China continue to increase rapidly, reaching 26,000 in 2015. Visits have more than doubled since 2010, increasing by a CAGR of 22%.

23 Italy Visits from Italy increased to 21,000 in 2015, up from 18,000 in 2014. Visits increased by a CAGR of 6.3% since 2010.
