Objectives Analyze a work fiction and determine the symbolic meaning of objects within the story. Construct a physical project with a symbolic meaning. Homework: Vocab. Unit 4 for Wednesday LotF chapters 5-8 due Thursday

Warm Up – Dissect the sentences: Many kind carpenters offered to repair the broken porch. Maria forgot to bring her new fishing pole. The bothered student stressed over their test.

Vocabulary Get out your books!

Vocabulary Get into your pairs and work on the unit. Make sure your name is on your LotF book and pass it forward. You will get this back at the end of class. Whatever you don’t finish is homework.

On your own Download the worksheet for participial phrase and complete. Turn in when finished for a grade. Move on to “The Cask of Amontillado” and complete the questions that accompany it.

Symbolism – The Cask of Amontillado By Edgar Allan Poe

“The Cask of Amontillado” Download the story from classroom. While you read the story, answer the questions and complete the annotations. All questions must be completed. Make sure you note: Symbolism – the sheild Plot – Separate the story like “The Interlopers”

Montresor Coat of Arms In the story, the character Montresor describes his family’s coat of arms. Given Montresor’s attitude and the theme of the story, what do these symbols represent: Golden Foot Snake Blue field in the background In your notes, write how this coat of arms tells the story of “The Cask of Amontillado”. You must write 6-8 sentences for your explanation.

Coat of Arms Project Take a piece of white paper and draw a shield. Draw 3 symbols that represent you and your life goals. At the bottom of the shield, write a family motto. This can be a sentence that describes you or your beliefs. On the back, List and label each of your symbols and their meaning. Make sure you write your name on the back.

LORD OF THE FLIES TIME Take out your LotF book and read. This is a good time to a annotate close reading objectives. Based on our lecture, annotate for symbolism in LotF.
