Presentation transcript:

Conversions Length

Customary 1 foot = 12 inches 1 yard = 3 feet 1 yard = 36 inches 1 mile = 5,280 feet

Customary  Metric 1 inch = 2.5 centimeters 1 yard = 0.9 meters 1 mile = 1.5 kilometers 1 foot = 30 centimeters

Metric 1 centimeter = 10 millimeters 1 meter = 1,000 centimeters 1 kilometer = 1,000 meters

Metric  Customary 1 kilometer = 0.5 miles 1 meter = 40 inches (a little more than one yard)

Conversions Mass/Weight

Customary 1 pound = 16 ounces 1 ton = 2,000 pounds

Metric 1 kilogram = 1,000 grams

Other 1 ounce = 28 grams 1 kilogram = 2 pounds 1 gram = a paper clip

What’s the Difference? Mass Weight Amount of matter in an object Always stays the same Weight Pull of gravity on an object Changes based on location

Conversions Volume

Customary 1 gallon = 4 quarts 1 quart = 2 pints 1 pint = 2 cups

other 1 quart is a little less than 1 liter 1 liter is a little more than 1 quart

directions Think you know your conversions? Let’s see if you do! Your directions are to look at your conversions notes. Look at them closely. Closer. Closer… Now comes the fun part. You get to write each of those conversions 10 times each on that paper! Have fun! 
