Presente Progresivo Unit 3B

What is it? El Presente Progresivo tells us that something is happening in the moment. We know the simple presente tense, which we use when talking about facts, repeated or regular actions, habits, or things that are generally true in the present time period. EX. Whales are blue. I eat lunch. I brush my teeth. We study Spanish.

Presente Progresivo We use Presente Progresivo to talk about what is happening NOW. What someone is doing at the moment, something is happening at the moment, or when something is happening at the time of speaking but not that exact moment. EX. She is eating her fruits. It is raining outside. I'm reading a great book. (Notice that in English, present progressive verbs end in -ing)

Regular Presente Progresivo Luckily, we do not have a lot of conjugations to learn for this verb tense. To say something is happening now, we use the (conjugated for the pronoun) present tense of estar and the present participle. The present participle is -iendo or -ando, based on the verb. -iendo is for -er and -ir verbs, while -ando is for -ar verbs.

Examples She is drawing. (dibujar) Ella está dibujando. They are learning. (aprender) Ellos están aprendiendo. We are writing. (escribir) Nosotros estamos escribiendo.

¡Pruébalo! He is eating They are singing We are swimming I am dancing You are running They are skiing She is living

Irregular Presente Progresivo: IR To make -ir stem changing verbs present progressive, the e in the infinitive changes to i, or the o changes to u. decir: diciendo pedir: pidiendo repetir: repitiendo seguir: siguiendo dormir: durmiendo vestir: vistiendo servir: sirviendo

¡Pruébalo! I am saying They are repeating We are asking He is following You are coming She is serving I am sleeping

Irregular Presente Progresivo: ER For these -er verbs, the i in iendo changes to a y. creer: creyendo leer: leyendo traer: trayendo

¡Pruébalo! You are believing They are reading We are bringing
