Jan 8 – Junior Lit Agenda: Quick-write Group-work Written explanation Homework: Complete your analysis of “Six to Eight Black Men”, submit to turnitin.com, and bring a copy to class on thursday Take out: Pen/Pencil “Six to Eight Black Men” Homework worksheet Goal: Identify and explain the use of satirical techniques in writing

Quick-write Write a single, formal sentence in response to the following question: What is the message of the essay “Six to Eight Black Men”, and which satricial techniques does Sedaris use to get that message across to his readers?

Group-work Compare your thesis to those of your group members Read each person’s thesis, and make suggestions/changes that can improve your own.

Explanation Your assignment for the remainder of class, which will also be your homework tonight is to type a two- paragraph explanation using the thesis that you just wrote. Your paragraph should include: Your thesis The message the author is trying to convey At least three satirical techniques At least three quotations (using weave structure) Commentary relating back to the thesis A conclusion sentence Your paragraph should be TYPED Upload to turnitin.com by tomorrow (Wednesday) night at midnight Bring in a printed copy to class on thursday
