Warm-Up: Take a sheet of paper from the tan bin. Please write the following information on it: Name: Parent/ Guardians’ Name (s): Parent/ Guardians’ Phone Number(s): Then, write a sentence that tells what you think the following picture has to do with reading.

For the following questions, write down how you rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 is the worst, 10 is the best) Rate yourself for: Reading to yourself and understanding it: Reading out loud to others: Vocabulary (how good is your school vocabulary?): Write three strategies you might do when you don’t understand what you have read: Strategy 1: Strategy 2: Strategy 3:

Supplies 2 packs (at least) of notebook paper that you leave in the classroom Pens/ pencils (for your own use) Independent reading book (a book you are reading for pleasure) If possible, please send tissues and hand sanitizer Homework Every student must read at least 30 minutes per night during the school week. This is to ensure that students are continually adding to their personal vocabulary. One of the biggest differences between below average students and above average students is their vocabulary. Students acquire their vocabulary through reading and meaningful discussion with adults.  Other homework will typically be assigned weekly.. When homework is assigned, students will be expected to responsibly write it in their planners. I will sign the planners of students who bring the planner to me to sign. Please check the "HOMEWORK" link above to review any current or past homework assignments.

(Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)

H: Help (If you need help or something repeated, raise your hand, wait silently for teacher) A: Activity (Studying vocabulary sentences with teacher to define words in context, taking notes in their word banks.) M: Movement should be 0. (Students should be in their seats listening to teacher, taking notes on vocabulary) P: Participation (Students should be recording notes in word banks as teacher introduces vocabulary) S: SUCCESS! (Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)
