First Aid Provision in School First aid provision within the school is provided by our Nursing Assistants. Mon & Thu – Mrs Armstrong Fri – Mrs Ramsey In their absence, pupils are advised to report to the school office where the appropriate support will be given.

First Aid Provision The First Aid provision in school is designed to deal with routine medical and first aid matters. Should you be injured during the school day, every effort will be made to attend to this. For example an injury in PE, or at break or lunch, a significant open cut or obvious swelling. If the injury is believed to be serious or requiring further treatment, parents will be contacted to make arrangements for this. If necessary an ambulance will be requested.

First Aid Provision Should you begin to feel unwell during the school day the Nursing Assistants will see you to decide whether you can remain in school or whether arrangements need to be made to send you home. Unless you are really unwell, you will simply be encouraged to return to class, letting your teachers know that you don’t feel well so they can keep an eye on you. You will be encouraged to drink plenty water, make sure you have eaten something and ensure you get some fresh air during break and lunch.

First Aid Provision Please do remember that the Nursing Assistants can not provide you with any medication, - not even paracetamol or throat lozenges, unless previous arrangements have made by your parents. Ice packs and heat packs can be borrowed if necessary but again you would be expected to return to class with these. Pupils should also remember wherever possible to report to class first before going to see the Nursing Assistants. This will help with registration and ensure that we do know where pupils are at all times.

What First Aid Provision is NOT Pupils are reminded that if they receive an injury outside of school hours this must be addressed by parents/carers and if necessary your GP. Pupils should not be reporting to the Nursing Assistant for this when they return to school. If pupils require a plaster for a small cut, they do not need to see the Nursing Assistant for this, please ask staff in departments for one from their First Aid box or ask at the school office.

First Aid Provision More and more the Nursing Assistants are reporting high numbers of visits in a day – and more often, it is with complaints that they cannot do anything for. All pupils are reminded to consider carefully whether they really do need to see the Nursing Assistant. We all have days when we don’t feel 100%, but sometimes it is just about looking after yourself as best you can and getting through it. Doing things like drinking plenty of water, having something to eat and getting out for a walk at break or lunch in the fresh air, can all help if you are not feeling your best.
