3. Before and After school routines
Children put their Lunch box on the class lunch box trolleys. Children are dismissed from the classroom onto the playground at the end of the day.
Their teacher will wait in the classroom or by the classroom door.
They are told to come back if they can’t find their parent.
Children are reminded to take home letters and to give replies to their teacher.
They are responsible for handing their own lunch (or other) money into their teacher before registration.
We do not use contact books for communication so please write a quick note on paper if you want to let us know something.

4. Timetable
Change to the timetable in this year with a dedicated daily slot for spelling.
Break will be taken earlier but remains the same length of time.
Continued daily diet of maths and English.

6. Reading & Guided Reading
Children have regular opportunities to read in class.
Guided reading will happen on a weekly basis on a two week cycle.
Reading records – entries checked weekly by class teacher
Your child will also hear their class teacher read regularly.

7. Phonics & Spelling Weekly short ‘No-Nonsense’ spelling workshop
2 x Weekly guided reading sessions for independent spelling / grammar investigation
One long spelling investigation lesson each month
Word of the day
Marking - ‘sp’ code for children to source own correct spellings (includes self-correcting)
Green vocabulary book
‘Have a go’ sheets
SPAG online (Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar)
Learning wall, class displays, word banks
Homework – personal / topic / core spellings
Additional support – ‘spelling audit’ or ‘Stareway to Spelling’

8. Homework
Approximately 90 minutes per week (including reading, spelling & times tables practice).
Homework is set every week – please help your child to get into a routine.
Unless stated otherwise (e.g. poster, PPT etc.), homework should be completed in the green book provided.
Homework will be either Maths, English or Topic.
At parents’ request from previous years, some research homework will be set over 2 weeks to allow for time to complete the research.

9. Writing Journals A place where children practise being a writer!

Not marked by the teacher but children often like to share pieces
Children ‘customise’ their journal – treasured!

10. Clubs
Children will make their own way to their club from their classroom.
They are responsible for taking with them everything that they need.
They will be taken by the club adult to the playground at the end of their club and dismissed to their parent. They are told to remain with the adult doing the club until they see their parent.

11. How can I help my child at home?

12. What to do if you have a concern or problem
First, speak to the class teacher. They are often available after school. The office can always arrange an appointment if they aren’t available. (It is always helpful to let the office know why you want to speak with the teacher so they can pass this on in advance of your meeting).
You can meet with the phase leader if you feel the matter has not been resolved.
If you still feel the matter has not been resolved, you can make an appointment to meet with a senior member of staff (Ms Beckett or Mrs May).
We now ask all parents when making an appointment to see a senior member of staff to provide the following information prior to the appointment.
