Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) OSC Town Hall: Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) Presented By: Dino Lopez Location: Abbey Park Secondary School Date: Tuesday, June 11th Time: 6:30pm

What is the Ontario Player Development League? A standards based league Will include the top 1.5% of players in the Province starting with age U13 in 2014 OPDL is the Talented Pathway OSC has advocated for this league

Past OSA Player Development Model Past Development Model Volunteer Coaching Promotion and Relegation 10 year olds on full size pitches Biggest, fastest players get preference technical development de-emphasized The new LTPD/OPDL plan professionalizes the player development model for Ontario

Why Does Ontario Soccer Need OPDL? A genuine high performance, standards-based League High level, mandatory standards of excellence in all organizations participating in the League Consistency of program quality across the entire League Quality beyond competition, driving into standards in coaching, training curriculum Talk about why the current model is broken. Changes that are already occurring due to the creation of OPDL. Large increases coaching education enrolment. Investment in facility development Investment in coaching development Greater organizational expertise being employed

Why Does Ontario Soccer Need OPDL? Driving organizational excellence and system development around Ontario, by encouraging clubs to: develop top coaches build top facilities maintain strong balance sheets professionalize their operations

Why Does Ontario Soccer Need OPDL? Bringing scouting Ontario, pitch-side, rather than at showcases around North America More efficient and economical for parents and clubs More opportunities to enter the Provincial Program Enhancing progression opportunities for the province’s top talent beyond amateur club soccer

What does it mean to be in the OPDL? To be a “Club Member” of genuine high performance youth soccer in Ontario Expose OSC players to the highest level of provincial youth soccer possible Showcase OSC players locally rather than around North America Attract and develop top coaches Introduce formalized sport science and sport medicine components to OSC programs Be a partner in the development of our country’s future star players
