Presentation transcript:

The top-ten foods which are ‘rich’ in the sweet poison. The Sugarlympics The top-ten foods which are ‘rich’ in the sweet poison.

Sugar Facts (Mint Chip Ice Cream) Number 10: Ice Cream At the top of the chain is Ice Cream, one of the most consumed foods on the planet. It contains up to 25% of sugar, depending on which flavor you are eating. Mint Ice Cream has the most and Vanilla has the least. Sugar Facts (Mint Chip Ice Cream) Sugar 100g Per 1/2 cup (68g) Percent Sugar 25.4g 17.3g 25%

Number 9: Barbeque Sauce That’s right – your favorite BBQ sauce has made the top ten in the sugarlympics. It has almost 35% of sugar. Double think it the next time you use it on your chicken! Sugar Facts Sugar 100g Per Tablespoon (17g) Percent Sugar 33.2g 5.7g 33%

Sugar Facts (Canned Papaya) Number 8: Canned Fruit Canned Fruit has almost 52% of sugar! That is a staggering amount. Research shows that canned papayas contains the most sugar of the canned fruit family (almost 40% more!) . Sugar Facts (Canned Papaya) Sugar 100g Per piece (40g) Percent Sugar 52.2g 20.4g 52%

Sugar Facts (Kellogg’s Honey Smacks) Number 7: Cereals Your everyday breakfast cereal has made it to 7th place in the sugarlympics. According to research, it shows that Kellogg’s Honey Smacks contain the most sugar of any other cereal (56%), and that corn flakes have the least. Sugar Facts (Kellogg’s Honey Smacks) Sugar 100g Per serving (27g) Percent Sugar 56.2g 15.2g 56%

Number 6: Jams and Spreads Your everyday bread and jam has made it to number 6 on the sugar scale. It shows that marmalades contain the most sugar from the jam family, which is up to a staggering 60%! Luckily peanut butter has a relatively small amount, so not everybody will be starving to death :-). Sugar Facts (Marmalade) Sugar 100g Per tablespoon (20g) Percent Sugar 60g 12g 60%

Number 5: Cookies, Cakes, and Pies Beware of the most commonly eaten dessert on the planet. Your average slice of cake contains almost 40% sugar! But macaroons have the most, a surprising 71%! My god, talk about a sugar rush! Sugar Facts (Macaroons) Sugar 100g Per Cookie (24g) Percent Sugar 70.7g 17g 71%

Number 4: Dried Fruit (Apples) Now this is stunning – dried apples contain – wait for it – almost 81% sugar! My god! Apples do have a very rich nutritional value, but in the sugar world, they rank number 4 on the scale. Beware! Sugar Facts (Apples) Sugar 100g Per Cup (60g) Percent Sugar 81.1g 48.7g 81%

Number 3: Candies & Nougat I’m pretty sure you saw this coming – Candy is number 3 on the sugar scale! Almond Nougat contains the most from the candy family, almost 93% sugar (I’m pretty sure you’re thinking about the remaining two now.). On the bottom is chewing gum and caramel, but t Sugar Facts (Almond Nougat) Sugar 100g Per Cup (60g) Percent Sugar 81.1g 48.7g 81%

Number 2: Drink Powders and Soft Drinks You guessed it! Number two is soda and soft drinks. Instant drinks can really pack a punch of sugar. Instant Lemonade proves to be the worst, packing a 95% sugar quantity. Soda is no better. A 100ml can of Coke has almost 25 packets of sugar! Sugar Facts (Instant Lemonade) Sugar 100g Per Serving (23g) Percent Sugar 95.3% 21.9g 95%

Number 1: Artificial Sweetener Now this is ironic. The number 1 sugar bomb is – wait for it – sugar! Not exactly sugar, but sweetener. Sweetener is meant to help people sweeten their food without having to use sugar, whereas sweetener itself is a staggering 100% sugar! Sugar Facts (Sweetener) Sugar 100g Per teaspoon (4g) Percent Sugar 99.8% 4g 100%
